Relocation is not available for this position.

The Senior Associate works within the Cell Therapy team and receives supervision from the Director and other senior scientific members of the team. The Senior Associate assists with projects that support development of Cell Therapy platforms in accordance with the company's goals. The Senior Associate position is primarily lab based and will share facilities and resources with other lab-based members of the Cell Therapy team.

Prepare, aliquot and/ortitrate media, buffers, cytokines, antibodies, and other reagents for experiments

Manufacture, select, culture, and maintain cell lines for in vitro and in vivo experiments

Generate, organize, and catalog cryopreserved stocks of PBMCs, T cells and other primary cells and cell lines for long term storage

Design and execute experiments independently to address project goals. Identify areas of improvement in experimental design if troubleshooting is required

Produce, characterize, and perform functional assays with engineered T cells with limited guidance from senior scientific team members

Properly document and update experiments in electronic lab notebook for data accountability

Analyze data and create figures for internal and external presentations with limited guidance from senior scientific team members. Communicate results, ideas, and plans clearly and concisely with an appreciation of the impact for the company. May be required to report findings to other stakeholders independently without supervisor's support

Work collaboratively with other teams on emerging technology and assay development

Cultivate in-depth knowledge of the current scientific literature pertaining to Cell Therapy group. Select/discuss methods and techniques for obtaining new experimental results

Cultivate knowledge and practice molecular biology techniques of PCR, cloning,RNA production, and ddPCR

Coordinate general operation of the cell culture lab, including ordering of materials and equipment, stocking of consumable goods, collection and packaging of biohazard waste, monitoring of liquid nitrogen and carbon dioxide reservoirs and general maintenance of the lab

Comfortable with mouse animal husbandry, injecting mice with tumor cells, and sacrifice and dissection/collection of relevant tissues (e.g. blood, bone marrow, spleen)

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.

Required:

BS with 7+ years of relevant experience or a MS with 5+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Ability to independently analyze, comprehend and interpret findings from scientific journals and presentations to help address project goals

Previous experience with flow cytometry and T cell assays

Previous research experience in the fields of immunology, microbiology, oncology and/or cell biology

Experience with cell line and primary cell maintenance

Capability to do mathematical calculations to figure out concentrations, cell numbers, molarity, dilutions and other relevant procedures

Knowledge of commoncell-based in vitro techniques, ability to follow written protocols and proven track record of independent experimental design and execution

Ability to clearly and accurately describe experimental hypothesis, design and findings during oral presentations

Reliable data acquisition, analysis, organization and reporting

Collaborative attitude and desire and ability to learn new techniques

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

Preferred:

Experience with virus culture and cell-based assays including viral infectivity assays.

Familiarity with human cancer models

Experience with mouse cancer models and ex vivo tissue analysis

Familiarity with common statistical assessments and data analysis techniques

Previous experience with an electronic lab notebook

Experience with Graphpad prism and flow cytometric data analysis software

Travel Requirements

Minimal travel is expected in this role.

Location

This is a laboratory-based position located at the South San Francisco Bay area.
