Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee Sales of Event Space in Rainbow Room, Bar SixtyFive, 620 & 610 Loft and Garden and Radio Park.
  • Develop and coordinate sales selling cycle and methodology.
  • Service must maintain an extraordinary level of excellence based on specs of ownership.
  • Achieve department goals.
  • Solicit and contract new business, to meet and exceed targeted sales goals and represent the RR at industry events and within community organizations
  • Represent the company at various community and/or business meetings to promote the company.
  • Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of sales, methods, costs, and results.
  • Service must maintain an extraordinary level of excellence based on specs of ownership.
  • Work closely with culinary and operations teams to ensure service standards are up to guests' expectations.
  • Develop and manage Marketing and Sales budgets, and oversee the development and management of internal operating budgets.
  • Plan and coordinate public affairs, and communications efforts, to include public relations and community outreach.
  • Directly manage major and critical developing client accounts, and coordinate the management of all other accounts.
  • Participate in the development of new project proposals.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Promote positive relations with partners, vendors, and distributors.
  • Recommend and administer policies and procedures to enhance operations.
  • Work with department managers and corporate staff to develop five year and ten year business plans for the company.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Serve on planning and policy-making committees.
  • Above all must actively embody, inspire and teach the core values to all employees.
What you do... PERSONNEL
  • Staffing
    • Maintain proper staffing levels by sourcing, interviewing and hiring qualified candidates who embody the core values of the Rainbow Room.
  • Training
    • Supervision and modification of the training program for all new hires.
    • Assure that all new hires are trained to standards and successfully complete training requirements.
  • Departmental Meetings
    • Participate in ongoing staff meetings to discuss personnel, operational and service related issues. Leadership meeting and Director meeting.
  • Daily Pre-Shift Meetings
    • Participate and lead daily pre-shift meetings to discuss shift related issues and provide the staff with necessary information.
  • Development of Team
    • Professionally and personally supervise your managers and coordinators to assure accuracy and efficiency.
    • Troubleshoot any problems that arise while giving them the opportunity to solve the problem.
  • Grooming
    • All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per Rainbow Room standards.
SALES DEPARTMENT
  • Oversees Events
  • Ensure that all events are executed as contracted and guest expectations are exceeded at every event.
  • Work closely with operations team to create event servicing standards.
  • Oversees Sales Goals
    • Confirm that you are on target to reach sales goals.
    • Negotiate contracts with clients with a goal of maximum probability.
  • Leadership
    • Strong leadership abilities, sound judgment and knowledge of Sales, Catering & Event Service operations.
    • Leading by example, through actions, words and behaviors that influence others to act and respond in ways that are valuable & appropriate to Rainbow Room's Core Values.
    • Fostering a team oriented environment, within the Sales Department and all other RR teams.
    • Address employee performance concerns by adhering to established procedures for progressive discipline and counseling.
    • Perform Employees reviews as required.
  • Maintenance and Organization
    • Ensure that Sales Area is hygienic and presentable to clients.
    • Report any maintenance issue in Event space or Sales area to the appropriate department.
    • Perform daily walk through of Sales area & Event space.
  • Proper Purveyor Relationships
    • Treat purveyor & vendors with respect and as partners.
    • Make sure that utilization with purveyor exceeds expectations.
    • Promote positive relations with partners, vendors, and distributors.
  • Training
    • Train staff to ensure we are exceeding guest, associate and owner expectations.
    • Educate all staff continuously to update on the latest servicing and sales, marketing and advertising techniques and SOPs.
    • Support all center-wide training, guest relations, branding and cultural initiatives.
  • Innovation
    • Must be innovative at all times to ensure constant excitement of sales goals.
    • Demonstrate business acumen, analytical thinking, technical skills, teamwork, creative flair and observation spirit.
    • Research business and marketing strategies, translating strategies to programs and procedures, fostering high performance, implementing various projects, advising senior management, and making sure that customer expectations are attained.
SERVICE
  • Expectations
    • Assures that guest service meets or exceeds our standards during all events.
    • Inform Operations or Culinary team of relevant information regarding special food or servicing needs of VIPs.
    • Anticipate and address guest's service needs as they arise and resolve all matters where expectations are not met.
    • Remain informed of level of guest satisfaction through communication directly with managers and floor staff and personal observation.
ADMINISTRATIVE
  • Correspondence with Guests
    • Correspond with guests and clients and initiate on-going written correspondence with regulars and new guests by composing letters and writing cards to acknowledge appreciation of business and special events.
  • Technology
    • Must be fully practiced in and regularly use available technology and software to ensure modern reporting and costing of all goods and services.
  • Manager's Logbook
    • Daily entry and review of information in managers' logbook that is relevant to operational concerns. Resolve all concerns.
  • Management meetings
    • Participate in weekly Management Meeting and provide input on issues. Responsible for resolving tasks.

    • Semi-Weekly BEO Meetings
    • Weekly FOH Manager's Meeting
  • Required Reading
    • Regularly read and review industry publications and other material related to industries and interests of our customers and regular patrons.
FINANCIAL
  • Most of the day to day needs will be handled by our Finance Department. However it is the responsibility of the Senior Sales Manager to oversee and direct processes related to their event Sales.
  • Maintains or increases profitability through constant monitoring of menus, goal setting, management and staff awareness of issues and initiating and maintaining financial controls.
  • Finding and taking advantage of opportunities that will improve the top line and cash flow.
  • Key participant in the annual budgeting process by preparing reports under guidance of the managing Director, Controller, Owner, Ownership representatives and accountants.
GUEST RECOGNITION
  • Identifying and recognizing regular clients is paramount to developing repeat business. Develop caring relationships with regulars and regularly initiate frequent written and verbal correspondence with all guests.
DAILY
  • Review daily sales report.
  • Review daily vouchering of invoices for proper expense distribution, purchase order support and approvals.
  • Maintain employee files.
MONTHLY
  • Assist in generation of monthly financial statements and meeting with MD, Controller and owners to review.
  • Ensure all your accounts are paid prior to the event taking place.
ONGOING
  • Keeping files and records in proper order for easy access for management or outside auditors.

  • Preferably 10 years of previous sales, events, service management, supervisory experience at an operation with similar service, guest relations and operational standards. Ability to use Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook and basic database programs.
  • Must be fluent in English. Helpful if conversant in Spanish, French or Italian. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business documents, safety rules, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to compose reports, business correspondence, task lists and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, team members and guests.
  • Ability to apply creative solutions to practical problems and situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to remain flexible in determining a variety of problem solving approaches. The employee must have the ability to maintain emotionally healthy composure and professionalism in stressful situations.
  • Participate in Sales Management. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and counseling employees; addressing employee concerns and resolving problems. Peripherally supervises FOH staff through education, employee motivation. The Senior Sales Manager takes direction from Finance in management of P&L, bill payment and other relevant office functions. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company philosophy, policies and applicable laws.
  • While performing the essential duties of this job the employee is frequently required to work in a limited physical space with variable atmospheric conditions including ventilation, lighting, smoke and extreme temperatures. The base compensation range for this role is $90,000- $110,000. This base range reflects a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skill sets, and/or licensure required of an individual in this particular role. The base range is also specific to members of Rainbow Room's New York team, as we've considered factors specific to this geography.
