Yarrow Biotechnology has an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrophysiologist with expertise in ion channel biophysics and cellular electrophysiology techniques to drive the discovery and development of novel ion channel-targeting therapeutics. This role offers the opportunity to lead cutting-edge research and contribute to groundbreaking treatments in cardiac health. We are interested in a scientist with sophisticated knowledge of in vitro cellular electrophysiology techniques, with a particular focus on Qube automated patch clamp, as well as manual patch clamp and single channel expertise. Experience in cardiac electrophysiology studying ion channels that determine the cardiac action potential in cardiac myocytes is highly desired, with focus on potassium channels preferred. The successful candidate will have a strong publication record with demonstrated scientific expertise in ion channel function and ion channel structure-activity relationships. To progress drug discovery programs, the candidate will employ electrophysiological recording techniques to characterize compound mechanism of action in in vitro experiments, and will be able to infer effect on cardiac function in vivo.Main Responsibilities
- Design and execute ion channel electrophysiology studies to elucidate the mechanism of action of compounds and mutations on channel behavior to support drug discovery projects
- Analyze and carefully interpret data, document and effectively communicate results
- Provide technical expertise in Qube patch clamp electrophysiology, particularly whole cell patch clamp
- Work effectively in a team of molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and biologics experts and demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills
Minimum Qualifications and Competencies
- PhD in Physiology, Pharmacology, or a related field, with a minimum 3-5 years of post-doctoral drug discovery experience, preferably in a biopharma environment
- Strong lead authorship publication record in peer-reviewed journals
- Considerable knowledge of ion channel biophysics and its relevance to drug discovery and human physiology
- Extensive experience in the detailed design, execution, and interpretation of automated patch-clamp electrophysiology studies, as well as experience in manual patch clamp studies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Authorized to work in the United States
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with cardiac or neuronal potassium channels, with cardiomyocyte channels preferred
- Working knowledge of manual patch clamp technologies
- Comfort and ability to execute in an exciting matrix work environment with like-minded individuals
- Unwavering aspiration to transform the lives of people with serious afflictions with first- and best-in-class medicines discovered at a highly dedicated, nimble, and innovative company
