About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Solar PV and Energy Storage Design Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems, engineering, utility interconnection requirements, and proficiency with industry-standard solar design tools. This role requires a commitment to innovation, precision, and the ability to deliver optimized designs that meet both technical and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities:

  • System Design: Develop comprehensive designs for solar PV and energy storage systems for residential and commercial clients, ensuring compliance with local, national, and international codes and standards.
  • Software Utilization: Use industry-leading tools (e.g., Aurora, Scanifly, SiteCapture, etc.) to design and simulate solar PV and storage systems, ensuring maximum efficiency and accuracy. Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar CAD tools is a plus.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the sales team, project managers, installation teams, and other stakeholders to deliver well-designed, install-ready solutions. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on efficiency and innovation.
  • Technical Analysis: Perform detailed system analyses, including energy yield simulations, shading analysis, and storage system optimization.
  • Electrical Engineering: Assist in the development of single-line diagrams (SLDs), wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics while ensuring compatibility with inverters, batteries, and other system components.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs meet permitting, interconnection, and safety standards, including NEC, UL, IEEE, and other applicable codes.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare design documents, engineering reports, and technical specifications to utilities, municipal permitting authorities, and other project stakeholders.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
  • Continuous Learning & Improvement: Stay up to date with the latest advancements in solar PV, battery storage technology, microgrids, and design methodologies.

Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Renewable Energy, Environmental or Electrical Engineering or a related field. Active NABCEP PV Design Specialist or NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification.

What You Will Bring:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in designing solar PV and battery energy storage systems.
  • Proficiency in energy modeling, battery energy storage system design, electrical design, and risk assessment.
  • Proven track record of successful solar PV projects, including design, utility interconnection, and efficient construction.
  • Experience managing solar PV projects in collaboration with external engineering firms.
  • Expertise in cost estimation and technical procurement support for solar PV and battery energy storage systems.
  • Proficient working knowledge of the IRC, IBC, NFPA 1, NFPA 70, NFPA 855 and relevant Massachusetts 780 CMR Building Code Amendments.
  • NABCEP or EIT certification is preferred but not required for the right candidate.
  • Strong quality management experience with the ability to address construction challenges and drive project success.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond your organization.
  • Experience in showcasing initiative to make improvements to current work, processes, products, and services across the organization. We value accountability and an ownership mentality.
  • Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify the root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.
  • Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry.
  • Eagerness to develop a fundamental understanding of how Valley Solar operates and then apply that knowledge effectively to inform business decisions

Pay range and compensation package: $95,000 to $125,000 depending on experience and credentials. Actual base salary may vary based upon, but is not limited to, skills and qualifications, performance, and geographic location.
