Essential Job FunctionsEssential Job Functions:
  • Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power tools and light and heavy equipment such as lawn equipment, fork lifts, snowplows, earth moving equipment etc.
  • Assists in moving office furniture and equipment between and within buildings
  • Loads, unloads, and transports materials and supplies to and from worksites
  • Moves, loads/unloads, assembles/disassembles, and sets up furniture; assists in event set up and take down
  • Gathers and disposes of trash, recycling, and other waste materials
  • Removes and cleans up debris from construction, maintenance, or repair work around buildings and grounds
  • Cleans and clears storm drains, culverts, and drain ditches
  • Shovels snow or operates snow removal equipment to maintain streets, parking lots, and sidewalks
  • Assists in making minor repairs on county buildings and facilities requiring some skill in carpentry, painting, and plumbing
  • Performs duties as a part of the snow removal team for the Schools
  • Assists truck operators in loading and scheduling shipments based on priority and efficiency.
  • Ensures that all paperwork relative to receipts and issues is forwarded to proper personnel for processing or filing.
  • Stocks materials according to a prescribed inventory system.
  • Unpacks incoming goods and wraps and packs outgoing goods.
  • Deliver voting equipment to schools and pick up based on the guidance of supervisor
  • Unloads materials from trucks by hand or with hand operated or motorized equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Budgetary Responsibility: N/AReport Preparation: N/A Equipment Operation: Utilizes equipment pertaining to assigned area.Contacts: Facility Services personnel, Facility Services administrators, Facility Services office staff, office staff and administrators from individual schools and occasional contact with county governmental employees. Work Direction/Supervision: N/ADecision Making: Frequent independent decision-making and problem-solving as it relates to service delivery. Seek supervisor's approval for situations outside of routine procedure.Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities: N/APhysical Demands: Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work outside and be exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical equipment and may be exposed to dust or airborne particles and packaged toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is moderate to loud.QualificationsKnowledge of basic custodial, building, or grounds maintenance and warehouse practices; of applicable tools and equipment used in the assigned area of responsibility. RequirementsAny equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this job. Valid VA Driver's License in good standing. Valid Commercial Drivers' License (CDL) Class B License required, or must be obtained within one year of hire date required. This position requires the incumbent to drive. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.Applicants considered for employment must successfully complete the following background investigations/tests:
