Examples of Duties
- Performs physically demanding tasks related to street and utility work.
- Operates a variety of equipment, including backhoes and front-end loaders for street or utility reconstruction and alley maintenance projects, vibratory pavement rollers to compact asphalt, vaccum and mechanical street sweepers for cleaning streets, tandem axle trucks (with or without trailers), and, when necessary, street graders or pavers; tasks often involve working in tight quarters near utility lines alongside crew members
- Performs preventive maintenance on assigned vehicle, including checking fluid levels and inspecting vehicle for damage or needed repairs;
- Performs all other related work as assigned.
Qualifications Applicants must possess high school education or equivalent and experience in the skilled, safe, and efficient operation of trucks, tractors, and related heavy motor equipment in all types of weather conditions; and for the performance of maintenance or construction tasks.
- Possession of a valid Ohio Driver's License.
- Possession or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements (180 days given to obtain if necessary, employer assisted).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the operational and minor maintenance characteristics of the assigned vehicles.
- Knowledge of the operating hazards and necessary safety precautions for street and utility maintenance activities.
- Ability to safely operate assigned vehicles in a variety of traffic and weather conditions and to develop proficiency in equipment and vehicle operations.
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and learn new equipment operation within a reasonable time.
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as valve and meter pits and vaults, sewers, septic tanks, lift stations, manholes, trenches, wet wells, tunnels, and digestors.
- Ability to work in adverse environmental conditions such as mud, water, and wastewater.
- Ability to ascend and descend vertical ladders.
- Ability to perform hard physical labor for extended periods of time under all kinds of weather conditions.
- Ability to be called out at times other than regular working hours to respond to emergency conditions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, and the general public.

If you choose not to participate in the wellness screening, the City will deposit 50%.DENTALThe City pays half of the full premium up to a maximum of $30 per month for dental.LIFE INSURANCEThe City pays 100% of the premium for term life insurance to all active permanent, full-time employees. VACATIONNew full-time employees receive 80 hours of vacation upon hire. Following six months of service, you receive an additional 24 hours.
