Work involves maintenance of water distribution and/or sewage collection systems and water lines within the City's utilities department. Examples of Duties
- Operates various vehicles for hauling construction or maintenance equipment and materials, hauling debris, water, and spreading gravel.
- Operates dump trucks to plow snow or to spread salt or sand; operates cab-mounted controls to raise and lower blade or lo stop and start spreaders.
- Operates pothole patching machines and street flusher.
- Performs preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles such as checking fluid levels and inspecting vehicle equipment for needed repairs or damage; reports any malfunctions or damages to supervisor.
- Performs physically demanding tasks related to street and utility maintenance and construction.
- Assists with the installation, repair, and maintenance of water mains, lines, and residential services; installs new or repairs existing services by tapping into or repairing water lines and mains; drives and stocks service truck; operates a variety of hand and power tools.
- Assists in performing a variety of tasks related to the cleaning, repair, and maintenance of sewer lines; assists in setting up and operating sewer equipment such as television truck, sewer rudder, sewer washer, catch basin cleaner truck, service truck, combo washer/catch basin cleaner, drag machines, and other vehicles and equipment; performs manual work such as cleaning manholes, catch basins, culverts, ditches, and drains.

Qualifications Must possess diploma or equivalent; mechanical aptitude; good physical condition; and possession of or the ability to obtain a Ohio Commercial Driver's License Class A with both tanker and air brake endorsements. 180 calendar days given from date of hire to obtain the CDL, (City assistance available, if needed).May require passage of a pre-employment physical and respiratory examination, including drug and alcohol testing, and completion of a confined space demonstration is required prior to appointment (Testing varies by division). *LATERAL TRANSFER* - Employee(s) currently holding this classification who are interested in applying for a Lateral Transfer out of their current division must file a request in writing to the Human Resources Dept. by the application deadline, this can simply be an email to

- Knowledge of the operating hazards and necessary safety precautions for street and utility maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of the motor vehicle laws relating to the operation of the vehicles. Ability to safely operate trucks, tractors, and other equipment of the class in a variety of traffic conditions.
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to vehicles.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to perform unskilled and semiskilled maintenance tasks as required by the position.
- Ability to work in confined areas such as valve and meter pits, vaults, pits, sewers, septic tanks, lift stations, manholes, catch basins, trenches, lift stations, sewers, wet wells, tunnels and digestors as some examples.
- Ability to wear and operate life safety devices such as air packs, face masks, safety belts and harnesses and other related equipment.
- Ability to ascend and descend vertical ladders.
