About Seton College:

Seton College is a new two-year college division of UMSV that will offer an associates degree for 100 students that have been historically underserved, who may require additional academic support, and who are motivated for post-secondary success annually beginning in the 202425 academic year. The programs goal is to prepare students to enroll in a bachelors degree program or to begin their professional careers. Seton College students will study on the Riverdale Campus of UMSV and have full access to UMSVs facilities and programs.

Job Description

The University of Mount Saint Vincent (UMSV) is seeking an adjunct faculty member for Seton College to teach two undergraduate natural science courses (below). Both courses are in person in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The courses run from January 21st, 2025 to May 13th, 2025.

NSCI 207 MAKING SENSE OF SCIENCE IN THE NEWS

The public learns much about science, medicine and health from the mass media, but many people have a difficult time understanding whether a news report is based on scientific evidence or media hype. This course will teach students ways to look critically at science and medical news stories that are published or broadcast by the media. (3 credits).

NSCI 202 CHEMISTRY OF OUR DAILY LIVES

An exploration of the degree to which chemistry is an integral part of our everyday lives. (3 credits).

Responsibilities:

Adjunct faculty will be responsible for classroom management, designing and teaching engaging class activities, and holding office hours with students.

+ Classroom teaching using effective and active teaching strategies

+ Following the syllabus provided by Seton College

+ Assessing student learning fairly

+ Entering grades into the LMS Canvas

+ Entering final grades at the end of the semester

Requirements

+ Masters degree in Chemistry-Preferred

+ Strong interpersonal, public speaking and writing skills

+ Past experience with teaching similar students or in a similar role

+ Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems, and work independently

+ Ability to represent the University in a professional manner

+ Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff and leadership
