Job Title: Settlement Specialist (Paralegal)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Associate and Lead attorneys

Exempt/Non-exempt: Exempt

We are seeking an experienced Settlement Specialist (Paralegal) to join our growing legal team. As a member of the legal team, you will provide vital support to attorneys, helping them in their day-to-day activities, managing legal documentation, speaking with clients, and assisting with all functions regarding case load. Your role is crucial in ensuring the efficient functioning of our legal department and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accuracy.

We are looking for the right fit to a dynamic and dedicated team, and contribute to providing exceptional service for our clients. Experience in settlement/negotiations is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and organize legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and correspondence, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to legal guidelines.
  • Settle or negotiate accounts with opposing counsel.
  • Write or adjust templates demonstrating strong writing ability.
  • Assist attorneys in preparing cases by conducting factual and legal research, analyzing data, and organizing relevant information. Prepare case summaries, chronologies, and relevant documents for court proceedings.
  • Communicate with attorneys, clients, witnesses, and any/all external parties to gather information, schedule meetings, and provide updates on case progress. Maintain professional and ethical relationships while maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Assist attorneys in negotiating, settling, reviewing documents, and problem solving. Coordinate with clients, opposing council, and other parties with a high level of professionalism and empathy.
  • Provide organized administrative support to all cases including scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings, and handling phone calls and correspondence.
  • Constantly maintain and update our electronic case system (CRM) with accurate recordkeeping.
  • Stay updated with legal trends, changes in regulations, and new case laws.
  • Collaborate effectively with attorneys, other paralegals, and legal support staff, fostering a positive and cooperative work environment. Assist colleagues when needed and contribute to team goals.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education & Experience: Bachelors degree in Legal studies or similar field or Paralegal Certification preferred; or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Computer Skills: Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and related mail operation services software applications.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as legal files, summons, answers, business correspondence and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and professional correspondence; ability to speak effectively, both in person and by telephone, to customers or employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to understand and interpret statistical reports, data charts and graphs.

Qualifications that Predict Success

  • Experience in a similar role required.
  • Experience in settlement/negotiations is required.
  • Strong understanding of legal concepts, procedures, and terminology. Familiarity with legal research methods and resources.
  • Willing to learn and collaborate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to comprehend complex legal concepts and convey them clearly to clients.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professional ethics, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate client records.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while adhering to deadlines and maintaining a high level of productivity.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Compensation: Starting salary range of $50,000 $65,000 depending on relevant experience. We hold bi-annual performance reviews to ensure we are actively identifying top performers, providing formal feedback and assessing merit increases.
