Lancaster County Water & Sewer DistrictJob DescriptionJob Title: Sewer Construction TechnicianDepartment: SewerReports To: Sewer Construction ForemanFLSA Status: Non-ExemptPrepared Date: August 13, 2020Pay Grade: 2SUMMARYInstall, maintain, repair, service, enlarge and relocate sewage facilities by performing the following duties individually or with the other employees.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Successfully and safely installs the District's sewer systems as required by the Sewer Construction Foreman.
- Loads and secures equipment and materials needed on the construction job site.
- Picks up and transports equipment and materials for construction using truck and trailer, or dump truck.
- Locates underground utilities before digging with equipment or manually.
- Performs general maintenance and ensures cleanliness of all District equipment and vehicles assigned to the Sewer Department.
- Notifies foreman or superintendent when equipment needs replacement or repair.
- Occasionally operates heavy to medium construction equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, or other equipment necessary for the purposes of sewer system installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Flags and directs traffic, places appropriate signs around work zone to ensure the safety of the crew and passing traffic.
- Follows all District safety policies and procedures, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Works on call and after hours as scheduled by Management.
- Other duties may be assigned as determined by Management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of utility construction work.
- Familiar with common hand tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions required on a construction site.
- Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to communicate effectively with work crews and others as needed.
- Ability to read and comprehend safety manuals, signs, maps, etc.
- Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions and terrain.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED). One year related experience and/or training with heavy equipment operation and maintenance is preferred.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSA valid driver's license is required. Employee must possess or have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License and a D Wastewater Collection License. COMPENSATIONThe employee shall be compensated on an hourly, 40-hour work week pay scale with overtime available. Employee will be paid bi-weekly (26 times per year). Pay range is based on skills, education, experience, etc.
