Title: Sewing Worker Location: Kane?ohe HI, 96744 Duration: 3-6 months Contract Payrate: $20/hr on W2 without benefitsJob Description:
  • The Housekeeping unit provides quality cleaning services hospital wide and ensures that direct care units are stocked with clean linens and clothing. Laundry launders linens, towels and clothing, observing infection control procedures as required, and sews and mends clothing and other items. This position is responsible for sewing, surging, mending, recording inventory, patient clothing, bedding, terry items, curtains, etc., and maintaining sewing equipment.
Role & Responsibilities:
  • Drafts and designs patterns for various sizes; lays out material and cuts using electric or manual cutters; operates power machine to sew all types and varieties of curtains, hamper bags, laundry bags, cart covers, safety wears; sorts and mends patients' clothing, linen, pillows, laundry hamper bags, blankets, bedspreads, cart covers and other items needing repair.
  • Records all drafting and patterns; records all repairs of linen, pillows, clothing, curtains, partitions, furniture, bags, bedding, covers and safety wears.
  • Assists in Laundry when needed; does daily inventory of units' linens, terry items, sundries, housekeeping supplies, and plastic liners; does computer inputs of all inventories as needed; assists with deliveries/pick up of supplies.
  • Other related duties as assigned
  • Completes annual HSH mandatory training that includes but is not limited to Conflict Prevention, Management and Resolution (CPMR), Infection Control, Fire/Safety and Patient's Rights and Safety.
  • Attends in-service trainings, staff meetings, pertinent workshops and participates in drills.
Equipment to be used:
  • Sewing machine, serger, scissors, computer, typing machine.
Minimum requirements:
  • Knowledge of sewing equipment, sewing, mending and alteration methods; the operation and care of power sewing, buttonhole and cutting machines; and techniques used in cutting and drafting patterns.
  • Skills/Abilities: Use of sewing, surging and cutting equipment; assist with inventories; and understanding and following oral and written instructions.
  • Education: N/A
  • Experience: One (1) year of experience in cutting and sewing apparel.
