JOB SUMMARY
The Sex Offender Registration Specialist is responsible for performing the state-mandated registration and compliance of convicted sex offenders residing within the city limits of Conroe. Manages the day-to-day activities of the Sex Offender Registration Program in accordance with department policies and procedures. Perform a variety of duties to include research, registration and maintenance of all aspects of sex offender registration. The number of active offenders will dictate job functionality on a daily basis. When not focusing on sex offender compliance, the position will be utilized to supplement Criminal Investigations support services and the Records Division as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Successfully complete background investigation and polygraph examination.
* Pass written general knowledge and spelling exam.
* Negative drug screen and job-related doctor's physical exam including hearing.
* Must be qualified for TLETS Training and Certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook) and data entry.
* Knowledge of relevant laws, rules and regulations pertaining to law enforcement in general and specifically involved in the registration and monitoring of sex offenders within a law enforcement agency.
* Ability to effectively perform the responsibilities involved in registration and monitoring of sex offenders.
* Ability to exercise courtesy and tact in dealing with the public, law enforcement agencies, judicial process staff and public officials while maintaining a high standard of confidentiality.
* Ability to prepare accurate, complete and legible reports and to present detailed, accurate and objective oral statements and responses to questions.
* Ability to organize and prioritize assignments, cope with varying demands and work under pressure with frequent interruptions.
* Ability to analyze information, and interpret and apply technical, legal and departmental information encountered in the performance of responsibilities.
* Ability to communicate verbally and in writing using the English language in person and on the telephone.
* Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is sedentary and requires the ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.

Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening as a condition of employment. A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required. Must pass FBI Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) fingerprint-based criminal background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
