Job Description Sheet Metal Structural Assembler II - Cherokee Surfaces - 1st Shift (Full Time)Department: All Openings, Manufacturing - ExperiencedAssists the Supervisor in the production of high-quality aircraft parts & assemblies following Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions. Assists in meeting or exceeding planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals. Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks:
  • Build complex fuselage sections, wing sections, as well as control surfaces requiring critical drilling, reaming, fitting, trimming with minimal quality defects at a high productivity rate.
  • Interact with Team Members & Piper's Manufacturing Support Teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. when appropriate.
  • Rework major discrepancies as necessary. Performs major and regular Material Review Board repairs, Standard repairs and modifications of aircraft due to customer directed or design changes
  • Provide assistance when required during new product development, design, build and testing. This may periodically involve augmenting Experimental Flight Test Department in a variety of capacities in order to achieve critical program milestones.
  • Assist with root cause and corrective action of nonconforming material in order to reduce defects and scrap material.
  • Improve departmental performance by completing cost savings activities such as tooling improvements, eliminating waste, etc.
  • Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere, maintain and assist teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Related Sheet Metal Assembly Experience Requirements:
    • Sheet Metal Structural Assembler I: 3 years of experience
    • Sheet Metal Structural Assembler II: 3-5 years of experience
    • Senior Sheet Metal Structural Assembler: 5 years of experience
  • Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Use of hand and power tools as required.
  • Follow all safety procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Adhere to Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions.
Physical Demands Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate job specific equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs. Other physical requirements include the ability to bend, kneel, crouch, twist, balance and reach above, out, and below.
