Job Description Sheet Metal Structural Assembler/Mechanic (Full Time)Department: All Openings, Manufacturing - ExperiencedSheet Metal Structural Assemblers/Mechanics compensation range (based on experience level) $22- $38.50/hr Piper Aircraft strives to be your Employer of Choice. Our Sheet Metal Structural Assemblers/Mechanics are responsible for assisting the team in the production of our high-quality Piper aircraft that support the Piper Aircraft brand. Our Sheet Metal Structural Assemblers/Mechanics are are tasked to follow Piper drawings, process specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions to meet or exceed planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals. The below outline for our Sheet Metal Structural Assembler/Mechanic Career Path provides the pay range and essential functions/job skills at every level within the Career Progression program. Sheet Metal Structural Assembler I ($22/hr- $26/hr) Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks: Assemble aircraft sheet metal structural assemblies including wing spars, wing sections, fuselage sections and associated flight controls such as Horizontal Stabs, Vertical Fins, Ailerons, Flaps, Rudders, Elevators, and Trim Tabs Drill out, countersink, dimple, ream and chamfer holes on structural assemblies using air operated and electric hand drills, auto-feed drills, drill baskets, drill guides, countersinks, dimplers, and other common sheet metal assembly tools Trim assemblies to fit and hand lay out parts maintaining designed gap tolerances, rivet edge distance requirements and other design features where parts are not fabricated to net dimensions. Apply sealants on pressurized fuselage sections, fuel bays and other structural joints as necessary Operate routers and grinders in areas requiring precision dimensions such as cabin windows, structural butt joints, etc. Install mechanical, electrical & hydraulic system parts and accessories. Inspect and buying off own and other Team Mate's work using Piper inspection certifications. Maintain the department's compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA requirements. Interface within the department to resolve quality concerns in a timely and cost-effective manner. Rework discrepancies as necessary. Assist with performing major and regular Material Review Board repairs, Standard repairs and modifications of aircraft due to customer directed or design changes. Conduct training and cross training of Team Members to attain acceptable levels of performance. Support continuous improvement efforts to improve the team's performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions. Assist the department in maintaining effective Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs. Perform duties as assigned by supervision. Sheet Metal Structural Assembler II ($25/hr- $29/hr) Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in all of the tasks listed above as well as the following tasks: Build complex fuselage sections, wing sections, as well as control surfaces requiring critical drilling, reaming, fitting, trimming with minimal quality defects at a high productivity rate. Interact with Team Members & Piper's Manufacturing Support Teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. when appropriate. Rework major discrepancies as necessary. Performs major and regular Material Review Board repairs, Standard repairs and modifications of aircraft due to customer directed or design changes Provide assistance when required during new product development, design, build and testing. This may periodically involve augmenting Experimental Flight Test Department in a variety of capacities in order to achieve critical program milestones. Assist with root cause and corrective action of nonconforming material in order to reduce defects and scrap material. Improve departmental performance by completing cost savings activities such as tooling improvements, eliminating waste, etc. Train teammates in departmental requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned program requirements. Perform duties of lower graded position in Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision. Sheet Metal Structural Mechanic I ($28/hr- $34/hr) Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in all of the tasks listed above as well as the following tasks: Assemble aircraft sheet metal structural wings and fuselages including mating stress critical joints, areas requiring critical close tolerance holes Hand locate and drill, as well as trim critical mate joints of fuselages and wings, and other critical operations as needed Performs at a high level of quality and productivity. Assists other team members to achieve a high level of quality and productivity. Inspecting and buying off all assemblies in the department using Piper inspection certifications. Maintain departmental compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA requirements. Interface with other departments regarding quality concerns to resolve expeditiously and in a cost-effective manner. Troubleshoot and re-work all major discrepancies as necessary. Primary point of contact for performing major and regular Material Review Board repairs, Standard repairs and modifying aircraft due to customer or design directed changes. Act as the technical liaison between Piper's Manufacturing Support Teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. when appropriate. Conduct or coordinate training and cross training of Team Members attain acceptable levels of performance. Drive continuous improvement efforts to enhance the team's performance including schedule delivery performance, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions. Assists with data collection, review and report generation. Work with other manufacturing areas to ensure production readiness for design changes. Provides assistance when required during new product development, design, build and testing. This may periodically involve augmenting Experimental Flight Test Department in a variety of capacities in order to achieve critical program milestones. Ensure the department maintains compliance with Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned program requirements. Audit all departmental programs for effectiveness Perform duties as assigned by supervision. Sheet Metal Structural Mechanic II ($32/hr- $36.50/hr) Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in all of the tasks listed above as well as the following tasks: Build multiple aircraft subassemblies with minimal quality defects at a satisfactory productivity rate. Inspect and buying off own and other teammate's work using Piper inspection certifications. Participate in efforts to resolve quality concerns in a timely and cost-effective manner. Assist with performing Material Review Board and Standard repairs. Support continuous improvement efforts to improve the team's performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions. Train other team members in subassembly operations, and Safety and other departmental requirements Assist with all Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned program requirements. Perform duties of lower graded position in Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision Senior Sheet Metal Structural Mechanic ($34/hr- $38.50/hr) Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in all of the tasks listed above as well as the following tasks: Leader of the area in all sheet metal aspects, assists with any and all sheet metal and leadership needs of the company Work with other manufacturing areas to ensure production readiness for design changes. Provide assistance when required during new product development, design, build and testing. Monitors departmental throughput and helps implement actions to attain departmental schedule requirements. Perform duties of lower graded position in Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision. Minimum Qualifications At least 18 years of age or older High school diploma or equivalent Related Sheet Metal Assembly Experience Requirements: o Sheet Metal Structural Assembler I: 2-5 years of experience o Sheet Metal Structural Assembler II: 5 years of experience o Sheet Metal Structural Mechanic I: 2 years of Structural Assembler experience o Sheet Metal Structural Mechanic II: 2 - 5 years of Mechanic experience o Senior Sheet Metal Structural Mechanic: 5 years of Mechanic experience Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime Ability to work with minimal supervision Use of hand and power tools as required Follow all safety procedures Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
