Job Overview:

The Shipping Clerk ensures efficient and accurate movement of goods throughout the entire shipping process. This position is responsible for coordinating and managing the preparation, loading, and shipment of goods. The role involves maintaining accurate records, preparing shipping documentation, and ensuring the safe loading of material and equipment on both FTL and LTL shipments.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper pre-shipment inspection and shipping documentation is completed for all outbound shipments.
  • Reference daily/weekly outbound shipment report to accurately pull finished equipment.
  • Assist as needed with the crating and preparation of equipment to ensure safe transportation to customers or vendors.
  • Work with transportation providers to properly check them in and out of dock scheduling system to provide accurate loading times for all equipment.
  • Ensure heavy and oversized loads are properly and safely secured to outbound trucks to ensure DOT compliance.
  • Process outbound parcel shipments (UPS/FedEX) utilizing shipper software.
  • Assist receiving and material handling departments as needed.
  • Makes decisions that affect other people, the financial resources, and/or the images and reputation of the organization.

Work Environment

This position involves working in an open warehouse and outdoor environment with the potential for extreme temperatures depending on the season. Some overtime or weekend work may be required to meet shipping deadlines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or its equivalent and 4-5 years in Shipping and/or professional experience in inventory control, or equivalent years of related training and/or experience.
  • High attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Must have experience driving and utilizing forklifts with preference to lifts with high capacity (20K+)
  • Overhead crane experience for loading material or equipment.
  • Proficiency in shipping and logistics software as well as basic computer skills (MS Office)
  • Familiarity with shipping regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, be highly motivated, and be able to follow through on duties and assignments with minimal supervision.
