Summary basic function of the role

Prepare domestic and international shipments in accordance with shipping requirements and specifications. Assemble and check orders, pack and crate orders, as well as attach or stencil shipping instructions. Check quantity, type, size, part numbers, dimensions, etc. to properly identify materials. Maintain records and prepare shipping reports. Help load and unload trucks as needed.

Shift: Monday Friday, participates in the on-call rotation, evenings and weekends may be required

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons.
  • Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
  • Inserts items into containers.
  • Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal banding.
  • Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.
  • Posts weights.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies. Completes buy cards for needed materials and supplies. Also, orders supplies as necessary.
  • Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping, subcontracting, and receiving platforms to storage or work area.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Warehouse experience is preferred.
  • Certification in the areas of Assembly, Calibration-Conformance testing and Order Management is preferred
  • Forklift certification is preferred
  • TWIC card preferred
  • Valid Drivers license required

Physical Demands

Employee may have to lift documents/work materials up to 30 pounds in weight. Employee may have to lift tools up to 100 pounds in weight. Employee will have to be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, this can include occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like. Employee may move themselves in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces. Employee will need to move about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another. Employee will need to operate machinery and/or power tools, motor vehicles, and heavy equipment. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members in person, telephonically, and electronically at all levels within a diverse workforce and with supported organizations. Employee will need to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Employee can work in front of a personal computer and telephone for long periods of time. Will have repetitive motions that include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Work Environment

Employees work is a typical warehouse environment which is subject to loud noise, various temperatures, outdoor elements (such as precipitation and wind), poor ventilation, small and/or enclosed spaces, and workplace hazards. Employee may also be visiting different customers where following appropriate safety protocols at the location would be required. Basic PPE is required during work hours: safety glasses, gloves, and steel toe boots.
