Position will be open until filled.

We are currently seeking:

A shop and inventory coordinator to join our team and, under general supervision, keeps accurate inventory and maintains/repairs Parks Department equipment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining and repairing Parks Department basic equipment, including but not limited to mowers, blowers, chain saws, pole saws, equipment blades, and trimmers.
  • Maintaining and repairing small motors and engines, as required; follows all safety rules and regulations on the job site.
  • Responsible for organizing tool and equipment purchases.
  • Operating, maintaining and cleaning shop equipment.
  • Keeping main shop area clean and organized.
  • Managing equipment and tool inventory, ordering materials, parts and supplies; tracking fuel and fluids usage.
  • Overseeing the vehicle and equipment key boxes.
  • Opening and closing main gates, buildings, and fuel tanks at the beginning and end of the business day.
  • Performing carpentry and cutting/welding duties as required.
  • Coordinating with Fleet Services for repairs and purchases of all equipment.
  • May be responsible for the development and maintenance of park areas and may be called upon to perform duties such as mowing, string trimming, picking up trash, edging, planting, weeding flower beds, applying water to lawn area and flower beds, pruning trees, etc.
  • May assist in the installation of sprinkler systems and perform irrigation repairs.
  • Position may include light construction, application of various pesticides, and other related/assigned duties as required.
  • Performing maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; reporting safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations.
  • Operating and maintaining a variety of tools and specialized equipment.
  • Coordinates delivery of supplies with other supervisors.
  • Assuring that hazardous materials are cleaned up and stored according to City policy and procedures.
  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm to include some over-time, weekends, and holidays as needed. (30-minute lunch)

    Requirements and Skills:

    • Repairing basic equipment, small motors and engines.
    • Skilled in operating various tools and machines used in grounds maintenance work.
    • Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
    • Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
    • Organization and cleanliness of shop areas.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Experience:

    High School Diploma or equivalent; and two years of experience in equipment inventory and maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Required Licenses or Certifications:

    • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License.
    • Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.

    Physical Demands / Work Environment:

    • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.
    • Ability to perform strenuous labor for extended periods of time; to work in extreme weather conditions.
    • Requires occasional physical efforts, and ability to lift and carry up to 117 pounds.
