Ensures that the terminal maintenance shop is operated in as efficient and problem free manner as possible during all three (3) shifts and that all vehicles and equipment are properly maintained in a timely and accurate manner so as to limit work flow interruptions and/or problems. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates the daily and long-term scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of Company equipment to ensure the safest and most cost-effective operations.
- Authorizes and subsequently reviews all repairs to equipment. Organizes and assigns departmental workload so as to maximize efficiency and quality of mechanics' performances. Grants final approval to all repairs regarding fitness of equipment to be safely and effectively operated.
- Instructs, guides, supervises, motivates and evaluates subordinate mechanics regarding the daily performance of their assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable Company policies and procedures.
- Coordinates availability of equipment with the operations department so as to be able to efficiently schedule routine maintenance programs, as well as any emergency maintenance procedures.
- Coordinates prompt and efficient handling of all breakdowns of Company vehicles while on the road.
- Researches and files warranty claims for all new units. Coordinates warranty filing for over-the-counter parts purchases.
- Oversees purchasing of routine and special order mechanical parts, tires and oil to ensure appropriate and timely availability of components for maintenance as needed. Monitors expenditures so as to ensure cost-effectiveness of purchases.
- Oversees prompt computerization of repair orders and accompanying information.
- Authorizes and coordinates scheduling of maintenance to be performed on Company equipment by outside maintenance contractors and/or companies.
- Reviews work orders and time spent on jobs on a daily and weekly basis to ensure accuracy, quality and efficiency of shop performance.
- Resolves problems that arise within the shop in an impartial and effective manner guided by Company policies and practices, as well as any applicable local, state, or federal statutes or regulations.
- Maintains constantly updated familiarity with DOT, manufacturer, and PGT operational regulations and requirements for all equipment serviced by the shop.
- Establishes and maintains productive working relationship with other PGT Trucking, Inc. departments and employees.
- Ensures that all activity in area of responsibility is conducted in accordance with the Company's safety program and all related procedures and practices. Ensures that all subordinates are trained in appropriate safety procedures.
- Explores, documents and recommends to management new methods and/or systems which when implemented would improve performance in area of responsibility.
- Performs other related duties as required by business necessity or assigned by management.
