We are looking for a skilled Short-Order Cook to join our team. Position Overview:As a Short-Order Cook, you will prepare delicious meals according to our café menu that will delight our customers with their taste and timely delivery. This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and continue developing valuable experience in the culinary industry. An excellent cook must be able to follow instructions in cooking and delivering well-prepared meals. They must be deft when moving around the kitchen and able to multi-task. Experience with using various ingredients and cooking techniques is important. The goal is to help preserve and enhance our reputation so we can expand our clientele.Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
  • Check the quality and freshness of ingredients
  • Prepare ingredients for use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as broilers, ovens, grills, and fryers
  • Handle and store ingredients and food
  • Monitor kitchen inventory levels and place orders when there are shortages
  • Follow recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients
  • Accommodate guests' special requests
  • Present, garnish, and arrange final dishes before they are served
  • Occasionally serve food
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment and dishes
  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards, ensuring all food and other items are stored properly
  • Execute opening and closing procedures
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a short-order cook
  • Experience in using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling, etc.)
  • Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to stand or walk for the majority of each shift
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Skills and Qualifications
  • Knowledge of safety procedures, including safe temperatures at which ingredients must be kept and to which food must be prepared to avoid foodborne illness
  • Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating on complex dishes/orders
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of people, such as waitstaff, dishwashers, management, and sometimes customers
  • Calm demeanor to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment
  • Accountability for the dishes they prepare measuring up to the expectations of management and customers alike
  • Comprehension and organization to follow direct orders and recipes and to correctly prepare dishes to the standards of the restaurant
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle tools, such as knife techniques for chopping, slicing, cutting, and dicing
  • Ability to stand in one place for hours at a time, handle extreme heat, and work shifts
