Certification is not required if the candidate has proven proficiency through years of experience. Position Information Perform ASL sign language interpretation for participants.In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to:

Essential DutiesThis position is responsible performing ASL sign language interpretation for participants in Metro Parks programs who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Interpreters are a part of the Inclusion team, providing inclusion assistance and communication between participant, coach/instructor and Inclusion Coordinator. Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Ability to quickly translate directions (ex: swim lessons) in a noisy, fast paced, stimulating environment.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in ASL sign.
Additional Information HOURS:Up to 15 hours per week.Hours vary depending on requests from the community. The most consistent hours are often supporting after school programming from 3:30 pm - 6:00pm on weekdays. Requests can also happen on occasion during the day, evening, and weekends. Interpreters are entered into a pool from which they can pick up hours they are available to take as they are received.COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
- Work various schedules including mornings, evenings, weekends, and afternoons.
- Ability to communicate with district employees and customers.
- Noise level is moderately loud
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Walking, kneeling and/or crouching to demonstrate proper form.
- Ability to navigate emergency situations, including performing CPR.
