This is a fun, flexible position that provides an opportunity to transform lives at the Kroc! The Silver Sneakers Instructor provides seniors fitness classes to work on flexibility, balance and muscle strength. We offer paid training, continuing education opportunities, and a free individual Kroc membership (or $10 per month family membership). The hourly pay range for this role is $15.00-$21.00 an hour based on education and experience.

In keeping with the mission of the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Division of The Salvation Army, The Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center provides facilities, programs and services that strengthen, encourage and enrich children, adults, and seniors through positive life-changing experiences.

SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Fitness Instructor will provide state-of-the-art group exercise instruction that contributes to each member or guest's fitness goals. To develop and instruct fun, energetic and highly motivational exercise classes for all fitness and skill levels.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. 1. Develop and instruct fun, energetic and highly motivational exercise classes for all fitness skill levels. Offer alternatives during classes to accommodate different levels of fitness.

2. Educate participants concerning safe exercise techniques and monitor safety.

3. Verifies class participants are rostered to ensure drop-in fees were paid.

4. Provide / assist in fitness assessments, orientations and tours.

5. Assist in the development of systems that safeguard all facilities, supplies and equipment related to the fitness programs.

6. Utilize the office support system that will allow for timely and accurate record keeping, including the areas of statistical reports related to all fitness programs, accounting of expenditures, and other reporting as required.

7. Ensure the attractive appearance, operational function, and general upkeep of the fitness facilities including equipment and furnishings.

8.In conjunction with the facilities department, execute an on-going preventative maintenance program for the fitness facilities and equipment.

9. Directly oversee the work of any aides assigned to work in the program area at all times and ensure that minor support staff are never left unattended with program participants.

10. Participate in designated staff training and professional development courses.

QUALIFICATIONS

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT: Uses a variety of office equipment including a computer, telephone, fax machine, copiers, printers and projection machines. Operate motor vehicles in the execution of some essential functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Must be at least 18 years old for instructor position

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience teaching various or specific group exercise programs

OR -

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: First Aid, CPR and AED Certification for Adult, Child, and Infant to be obtained with 30 days of hire. Current certifications through ACE, ACSM, AFAA or NSCA or any unique certifications pertaining to specialized Silver Sneakers group exercise class or format.

This job is performed at times in an office environment at normal room temperature. The noise level in this work environment is usually low.
