SITTER - Southwestern Medical Center LLC : Job Details

Title Sitter Description **Position Summary:**

Under the supervision of the RN, the sitter is to provide direct observation of patients for the purpose of helping to provide a safer environment

**Tasks:**

1. Identifies patient using two (2) identifiers.

2. Receives report from nurse and/or previous sitter at beginning of shift. Proper Handoff.

3. Gives report to the nurse and/or replacement sitter at the end of the shift. Proper Handoff.

4. Demonstrates positive verbal/non-verbal communication skills.

5. Notifies nurse of any changes in patients condition.

6. Demonstrates and implements suicide precautions as directed.

7. Demonstrates competency in documenting frequent observations on flowsheet.

8. Stay with patient at all times including bedside commode and bathroom.

9. Arrange break times with staff.

10. Never leave patient unattended.

11. Does not participate in distractive activities:

* Cellphone

* TV

* Reading

* Studying

* Computers

12. Maintain HIPPA standards.

Requirements **Licensure/Certification/Registration :**

BLS certification.

**Experience Required:**

None.

**Education/Development/Initiative:**

* High School graduate or equivalent.

* Completes continuing education requirements through HealthStream

* Has knowledge of current trends and practices.

* Maintains education and development appropriate for position.

* Applies feedback to improve performance.

* Exhibits ability to learn and apply new skills.

* Attends job related in-services.

* Participates in department and hospital wide improvement initiatives.

* Able to perform job duties autonomously.

* Completes required hospital Code of Conduct training.

* Demonstrates self-motivation in performing job duties.

* Attends at least 80% of department meetings.

* Attends annual Safety Fair.
