Overview:

This is specifically an Experienced Ski Instructor Position for applicants that have instructed skiing professionally at a ski resort. PSIA certification highly recommended.

Brighton Resort is looking for fun, energetic, enthusiastic people, who have prior resort experience teaching skiing with a focus on safety, fun, and learning. Brighton provides an environment that enables instructors to share their passion for the sports we all love. Teaching may include a variety of student ages in group, private, and multi-week lessons. However, it is possible to be a children only instructor.

Responsibilities:
  • Attend mandatory training Nov 16, 17 and 24, 2024
  • Responsible for the safety and learning of students in lessons of 1-8 students
  • Expected to teach students of all ages
  • Effective communication with students, parents, resort staff and guests
  • Engage in continuing education such as teaching tactics, sliding skills, and people skills
  • Other duties related to the daily operation of the Ski School
  • Ability to work outdoors in the winter mountain environment

Expectations for this position

  • Arrival time is 8:45 AM unless you are only teaching an afternoon or evening shift
  • Some weekends, holidays or powder mornings, you may need to be in the mouth of the canyon by 7:00 to be able to be at Brighton by 8:45 AM due to traffic.
  • In addition to paid training, instructors will need to do additional training before teaching solo.
  • If you are working Saturdays and/or Sundays, you will be required to work every Saturday and/or Sunday during our multi-week programs to ensure quality and consistency with these programs.
  • Full-time instructors have an option to work 4-5 days a week. Those choosing a 4-day a week schedule will also need to teach a least 2-afterschool programs a week Jan through March.
  • 4-day a week full-timers, will also need to work 5 days a week in March due to accommodate the spring break guests.
  • Part-time instructors will need to work at least 1 day a week or more consistently on a Saturday or a Sunday.
  • Instructors are paid an hourly wage and a student incentive per student.
  • We are a commission paid ski school. At times, there may be no work due to lack of business.
  • It is important to realize that work is not guaranteed every day due to the demand of business.
  • Instructors tend to work 4.5 to 6 hours a day.
  • When working, you will always need to be in a Brighton uniform, with black pants, with nametag and a helmet.
  • Mandatory paid training for EXPERIENCED instructors will be on Nov 16, 17 and 24
  • Dates are subject to change due to weather conditions

Qualifications:
  • 18+ years old
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Experience working with students of a variety of ages, skills, and group size
  • Intermediate + skiing or snowboarding skills
  • PSIA or AASI a plus, but not required
  • A growth mindset (an openness to learning and feedback)
