Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesNOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville. Service to the citizens during a disaster may result in the assignment of other duties, which will take precedence over duties described in this job description. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees may perform other related duties as needed to meet the needs of the organization.
- Performs a variety of heavy manual work in connection with the repair, maintenance, and construction within the water/sewer department.
- Operates pneumatic and power equipment.
- Performs ground and building maintenance.
- Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, gravel, and sand.
- Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
- Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by checking equipment/tools after each use.
- Performs manual labor such as weed eating outfalls, painting manholes, spraying week killer, repairing water and sewer lines, digging out water and sewer pipes, and other duties as required.
- Sets up road closures by putting out signs and cones; flags traffic to ensure a safe working environment.
- Assists with the installation of trench shoring equipment.
- Assists supervisors with training unskilled laborers.
- Assists supervisors in planning and organizing work.
- Acts as lead worker on projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum RequirementsEducation and/or Experience
- High School diploma or GED.
- Six (6) months experience in maintenance, repair, and/or construction work.
Other Requirements
- Possession of a valid N.C. driver's license or
- Valid driver's license with ability to obtain a NC within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.
