TITLE: SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY ASSISTANTEMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, ClassifiedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders, Speech Pathology or Speech and Hearing Sciences; or an Associate Degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Program that adheres to The American Speech-Language-HearingAssociation (ASHA) guidelines
  • Valid Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) license issued by the Arizona Department of Health Services
  • English language (verbal and written) proficiency
  • Experience working with students grades K-12 preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written)
  • Have training and experience in individual and group speech therapy
  • Familiarity with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (I.D.E.A)
OVERVIEW OF JOB DESCRIPTION: To provide therapy assistance and support to speech-language impaired students, as directed by the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP); to assist in the assessment of students; and to provide written and verbal input to the SLP regarding formal documentation.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide direct therapy assistance to students identified by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) following written therapy plans, IEPs or protocols developed by the SLP (See Arizona Department of Health Service guidelines for SLPAs)
  • Assist the SLP with informal documentation as directed
  • Document student progress toward meeting established objectives as stated in the therapy plan, IEP, or protocol and report this information to the SLP
  • Participate in IEP/MET meetings when necessary
  • Adhere to FERPA and confidentiality laws
  • Assist the SLP in collecting and tallying data for assessment purposes
  • Prepare and process record keeping and materials necessary for documentation to convey information to appropriate parties
  • Regular and on-time attendance required
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned
  • REPORTS TO: Special Education DirectorTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year to be established by the Board. Salary is determined by individual training and experience level on the approved salary schedule.EVALUATION: The performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of personnel.ADA ACCOMMODATIONS: Decisions regarding appropriate and reasonable accommodation(s) will be based on the merits of each situation.
