Requirements / Qualifications Role of Teaching Artist/ Expectations - Teaching artist is a professional artist who works as an educator, integrating their art form into a variety of settings. They are also known as artist educators or community artists. Teaching artists are important because they help students develop critical skills, such as problem solving and creativity. They also help students prepare for careers in a changing economy. Role at SMS - Serve as Assistant Director to the Main Stage Production/ drama teacher (Mrs. Eagan) Attend auditions/Callbacks Attend rehearsal several times a week Give direction/blocking/singing/dancing notes to all students involved in production Oversee rehearsals or portions of rehearsals when director/music director is unavailable Fine tune specifics in staging/acting/character development Write down detailed notes about acting/blocking/character development (particularly closer to final weeks of rehearsal/ tech/dress rehearsal) Be in attendance of performances (four) Assist teacher (Mrs. Eagan) in production needs/contact or communicate with others involved in the creative/design team. If selected to coach, the following items will be required prior to clearance: 1) TB/Drug Screening within 5 days of offer. 2) Live Scan Fingerprinting - $69.00 made out to: MVUSD (via Cashiers Check/Money Order for California Teaching Commission cost). 3) Unless you hold a valid teaching credential/or 30-Day Substitute Permit, you will need to attain an ASCC through the CTC website $102.50. 4) Valid CPR & First Aid prior to start date.CPR and First Aid Certifications must be from an American Heart Association or American Red Cross Approved, in-person course. No online certificates will be accepted. 5) Completion of Keenan SafeSchools online training modules.
