Allied National is looking for a mid-level Software Engineer I to add to our Information Systems team. This role is a project-based position that offers a unique opportunity for ownership of said projects. We are looking for an individual who wants to take liberties when completing their work and does not want to be boxed in with procedures. An integral part of IS, the software development area participates in the full product lifecycle, including design, implementation, deployment, and maintenance of Allied's suite of home-grown and customized off the shelf systems.
Software Engineers report to their functional team lead but often work across teams. This presents a unique opportunity for rapid growth and advancement to hands-on coding bigger and better projects that drive the company forward.
Allied National Development staff are not On Call and require very limited weekend and evening work (1-4 times a year) for deployment of critical system updates to production.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
25% Extend and refit existing code to handle new use-cases, fix bugs, or improve performance.
25% Create new code based upon user stories and use-cases to solve specific issues.
20% Perform root-cause analysis with senior developers and IS staff on complex and escalated issues.
20% Work with business subject matter experts to find out how a new or existing system-supported process should function.
10% Create and maintain systems documentation.
Requirements:- Must have 2-3 years of experience with JavaScript.
- Must have 2-3 years of experience with React.js.
- A willingness to learn, acquire new skills, and be hands-on with every phase of the Software Development Lifecycle.
- Good communication skills, i.e., ability to relay technical information to others in the department and company and to translate technical language into user-friendly terminology.
- Ability to provide professional and courteous service to end-users as required.
- Strong logic and analytical skills.
- Ability to problem solve, perform research, and assist troubleshooting system issues.
- Ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines.
- Ability to adhere to department and company required standards.
- Ability to meet company attendance requirements, including working on-site several days a week.
NICE TO HAVES:
- Experience with SQL.
- Experience using Version Control and Project Management tools in a professional environment.
- Exposure to or experience with programming tools, through education, training, or practical.
- Experience in or around a development environment.
- Experience in the insurance industry.
