About this roleNORESCO is seeking a Software Product Manager to lead a developer team executing major software projects within our Codes and Standards team. Applicants should have proven expertise and skills specific to the development and maintenance of software products, advanced communication skills, and the ability to coordinate a variety of staff to produce top quality client deliverables. Aptitude for and experience with project management and client management is required. You will formulate and execute project activities that are technical and detail-oriented, lead other contributing team members, maintain client relationships, and manage and deliver software projects that support the development and implementation of building decarbonization policy.As a member of NORESCO's Codes and Standards team, you will have broad impact on building energy and green codes in the U.S, including in leading states such as California, Massachusetts, and New York, as well as on national building energy codes. This team includes engaged and talented individuals, possessing diverse and specialized skills covering a wide range of capabilities within energy and green building policy. The position will leverage existing client relationships providing you with limitless opportunities for growth and having an impact shaping the future of building decarbonization in the U.S. The primary focus for this role will be to advance California's Building Energy Code Compliance (CBECC) software, which is created by the State of California to support demonstration of compliance with the statewide Building Energy Efficiency Standards during the building's permitting process. CBECC is taxpayer funded and therefore offered to the market at no cost.Key Responsibilities:
  • Be the voice and primary ally of the customer for the CBECC software product.
  • Represent a deep understanding of the different CBECC users, and how their varying needs translate into product requirements.
  • Define and evangelize product vision, strategy, and roadmaps in partnership with the State of California and stakeholders.
  • Gather continuous customer feedback on the product and document for the State.
  • Prioritize product development and support in collaboration with customers, stakeholders, and technical teams.
  • Communicate with developer team regarding current workload, project updates, potential obstacles, opportunities for innovation, and specific project deadlines.
  • Occasional (0-10%) business travel.
  • Direct responsibility for product technical architecture, in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Participate in documentation, training, testing and delivery efforts in concert with other team members.
  • Manage product and development using Agile processes and methodologies; accountable for the breaking down large pieces of work into smaller chunks.
  • Build and maintain a prioritized backlog of milestones, user stories, and acceptance criteria, based on key collaborator requirements, customer input, and use case development.
  • Ability to bring a consulting approach to help business solve issues and challenges.
  • Liaise with other functional / technical teams.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of the current technology and infrastructure from a functional perspective.
  • Be the first point of contact for user support and problem solving.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 5+ years in software development and/or software product management.
  • 3+ years of experience with software project management, product delivery, and tools and practices such as QA/QC/DevOps, Agile/Scrum project workflows, software code version control with Git, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery, software development with Python/C++/web frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8+ years' experience in software development and ideally building industry.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of California Title 24, ASHRAE Standard 90.1, IECC, and other energy codes and standards.
  • Expertise in building systems including architectural, envelope, mechanical, electrical, controls, water, and special systems.
  • Understanding of key building decarbonization strategies and systems, including high performance building envelopes, heat pumps, and heat pump water heaters.
  • Demonstrated ability to write technical reports, papers, and provide presentations to knowledgeable audiences.
