Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is looking for a Solid Waste Field Representative Lead. The successful candidate will monitor contractor performance to ensure the solid waste services are provided in accordance with procedures, regulations, and contractual requirements. This position will report to the Solid Waste Inspection and Compliance Manager.

* Enforce solid waste code sections of the Seattle Municipal Code or residential and commercial customers through audits and enforcement activities.

* Help resolve solid waste issues by responding to escalated solid waste issues for commercial, multi-family and residential customers.

* Set up new multi-family buildings with solid waste services and provide ongoing service and billing support.

* Set up customers with special services if they are unable to manage their own solid waste.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience dealing with the public in enforcement, inspection, investigation work or in resolving conflicts or in utility customer service; at least one year of which must include work similar to a Solid Waste Field Representative.

Education and Experience Equivalency: Two (2) years of college-level education in public or contract administration, mathematics, sanitation, or similar courses that will provide the background to perform the work may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

License: Valid Washington State Driver's License to operate City vehicle to conduct inspections.

The ideal candidate should possess some of the following:

* Detail oriented. Work involved preparation of reports and memoranda, and they need to maintain accurate records.

* Communication and partnering skills: the inspector communicates and partners with customers, contractors, and other City departments daily to achieve desired solid waste outcomes.

* Training Skills: Inspectors are required to train, instruct and assist employees and customers on garbage collection procedures and regulations.

* The work of this class requires specific knowledge of solid waste service and programs; the requirements and terms of contractor agreements with the city; various City Ordinance and laws related to solid waste and littering; and applicable City Personnel Rules and practices.

* Ability to work as a team member and provide timely and responsive customer service.

* Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and produce work under tight deadlines, consistently.

* Excellent problem solving, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

* Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

* Experience working in a team environment, ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across different departments and workgroups and working effectively within a multi-cultural workforce serving a diverse customer base.

Working Environment/Conditions:

* Field assignments entail exposure to all types of weather, traffic, hazardous/toxic substances and work in or near construction sites.

* Required to lift/move objects weighing more than 50 pounds.

* Required to stand, walk or bend for extended period.

* Work may be either in the field or in the normal City work/office environment (hybrid opportunities are available) and individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.

The full salary range for this position is $45.81- $53.45 Hourly.
