Job Summary:Under the general supervision of the Medical Director(s) and /or Director of Imaging Services, sonographers are responsible for providing exceptional patient care, ensuring acquisition of quality of images, use of appropriate technique and adherence to approved protocols. May be assigned the oversight of unregistered sonographers performing sonography. Functions as the clinical and technical expert in Sonographic Imaging. Makes recommendations to Imaging leadership regarding equipment and staffing needs. Assists in the accreditation processes.
  • Responsible for the oversight of Tri State Health sonography services, ensuring quality of images. Accountable for creation, oversight, and application of scanning protocols and quality measures following the guidelines of ASE or IAC.
  • Functions as the clinical, technical, Advanced Practice expert in Sonographic Imaging for Imaging department.
  • Acts as a clinical resource and mentor to staff. Facilitates the advancement of clinical practice within the ultrasound service line though individual or group educational plans, as indicated. Suggests programs to educate and train new staff in new sonographic techniques and assists in assuring staff competencies.
  • Provides sonographic related education to Tri State Health providers and staff, sonography students, other departments, agencies, and the public, as needed.
  • Assists department Director with the budget process through human resource needs identification and makes recommendations regarding acquisition and implementation of new equipment, as well as plans for normal upgrading and replacement of Sonography related equipment.
  • Contributes to the annual performance evaluation process by providing competency assessments/evaluation to the area leader relative to the technical expertise of the individual sonographers.
  • Ensures sonography functions are within compliance with professional Scope of Practice, accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Facilitates staff and leadership team communication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
ABILITY AND KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Sonography and Vascular anatomy and physiology
  • Demonstrates in depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology and disease processes.
  • Ability to operate ultrasound equipment utilizing a variety of techniques, including M-mode, two-dimensional, pulsed and continuous wave Doppler flow mapping.
  • Ability to perform general sonographic examinations, recognizing the significance of all structures visualized.
  • Competent in and demonstrates ability to perform all routine sonography procedures, including complex studies requiring critical thought.
  • Ability to implement Safety policies and practice safe procedures
  • Ability to make knowledgeable clinical assessments and judgements
  • Knowledge of hospital or department policies and functions of other departments

  • Provide comfort and support to patients during examinations, addressing concerns and maintaining a calm environment.
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting findings, including measurements and observations, for physician interpretation.
Education and Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare or related field, preferred. Commensurate experience will be considered.
Licensures/ Certifications:
  • Minimum Required: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography - Registered Sonographer or Willing to obtain ARDMS within 1year, if formally educated or
  • Willing to obtain ARDMS within 2 years if educated on the job via Berwyn or other virtual training program.
  • Current BLS
Experience:
  • 2 years of clinical experience, preferred
