Sorter - Grower Direct Nut Company : Job Details

Under direct supervision, primarily engages in the extraction of foreign material from walnuts from the production belt. Helps other departments as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Manually removes defective walnuts or foreign material from a moving belt while maintaining product quality by following customer specifications.
• Meets output standards, schedules, and deadlines designated by production standards and the Operations Manager.
• Separate defective product in correct disposal area.
• Draws random samples from production lines to perform a variety of predetermined tests.
• Scrape waste material from machines.
• Ensures product quality standards are clearly defined and that the finished product quality attributes are within specification.
• Helps dump boxes of product.
• Sweeps, mops and cleans work area.
• Load and unload items from machines.
• Help set up, run, and clean equipment.
• Pack all products as needed.
• Supply lines with boxes, product and pallets.
• Ability to stack boxes up to 7' high.
• Perform any other work as assigned by supervisor.
• Sort product on a sorting belt at a rate of at least 60% removal or higher
• Follows and ensures adherence to established Grower Direct Nut Co., local, state, and federal regulations and requirements as well as food safety, sanitation, food production and nutritional guidelines.
• Dumping product into bins.
• Changing product from one box to another.
• Responsible for putting label tag on complete pallet.
• Responsible for ensuring the DFA stamp is on all final product boxes, as required.
• Follows and ensures adherence to established Grower Direct Nut Co., local, state, and federal regulations and requirements as well as food safety, sanitation, food production and nutritional guidelines
• Established and ensures adherence to procedures and standards, which are in agreement with these regulations, requirements and guidelines.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities are not limited to the above mentioned and may include assisting other departments within reasonable and related tasks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical demands

• Will frequently stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle and feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear, taste and smell.
• Will occasionally sit and occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel crouch or crawl.
• Must use both hands for rapid mental muscular coordination, simultaneously.
• Must be able to reach high and low levels, frequently.
• Must be able to push/pull/lift with arms below waist/at shoulder/above shoulder level up to 35 pounds frequently.
• Must lift with arms up to floor to waist, waist to shoulder 35 pounds.
• Must be able to constantly stand/stoop/walk/bend, up to 12 hrs.
• Ability to strenuous flex/grip with wrist/hands frequently (15 flexion/minute).

Work environment

• May work near moving mechanical parts.
• May work around wet or humid conditions, in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and/or risk of vibration.
