Conemaugh Miners Medical Center is seeking a part-time Special Duty RN for the Medical Surgical Unit. The Special Duty RN provides direct day-to-day care to patients and families of Conemaugh Miners Medical Center. The Special Duty RN practices to the fullest extent of his/her license in accordance with organizational policies. The Special Duty RN is under the direction of the Nurse Manager and in collaboration with the Physician. He/she functions as a member of the Patient Care Team to implement the patients' plan of care. The Special Duty RN provides care specific to age and developmental needs of neonates to adult and geriatric patients. He/she participates with the Nurse Manager in continuous improvement. He/she may need to travel to outlying areas in the Conemaugh Health System for required education.

Coordinates the Patient Care Team's delivery of personalized, efficient care with respect for patient's spiritual and cultural differences.
Promotes factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care.
Provides patient assessment throughout patient stay while maintaining a therapeutic partnership with patient, family and care givers.
Provides initial and ongoing assessment and care.
Initiates individualized patient and family teaching plans.
Demonstrates competency in safe medication administration.
Implements physician orders and records/reports critical results appropriately.
Collaborates with physician regarding patient care.
Makes decisions and judgments in preventing, analyzing and resolving patient care concerns using critical thinking skills.
Effectively communicates patient's status and anticipates situations that prevent/minimize adverse outcomes.
Completes and demonstrates annual departmental and nursing division competencies.
Maintains confidentiality of all patients, hospital and employee-related information.
Complies with HIPAA regulations.
Completes the following:
Attends and participates, as a minimum requirement, in six (6) staff meetings annually. Reads all staff meeting minutes not attended.
Biannual requirement of 30 Contact Education hours.
Maintains proficiency in all aspects of documentation.
Participates in Performance Improvement unit-based activities and hospital based as directed.
Commits to Service Excellence and continually strives toward achievement of the Standards of Care.
Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of patient's rights.
Supports HCAHPS activities.
Unit(s) Specific:
Possesses complete knowledge and understanding of assessment and use of equipment.
Participates in new programs as developed.
Oversees, provides and coordinates delivery of holistic patient care for a group of primary patients, under approved protocol.
Provides direct care as primary nurse, oversees/coordinates total quality care.
Monitors utilization and outcomes.
Provides input on budget issues affecting efficient care delivery, judicious use of products, clinic organization and staffing patterns.
Participates in clinical trials and studies; adheres to trial and study guidelines.
Assists with Performance Improvement studies as requested.
Assists with nursing peer review process as needed.
Participates in student education.
Implements the interventions identified in the established plan of care and collaborates with members of the Patient Care Team as needed.
Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients such as cardiac arrest.
Participates in Code Blue situations, as required, and administers cardiac arrest medications.
Initiates specialized care and procedures specific to work area.
Identifies monitored heart rhythms and implements appropriate treatment.
Completes annual required education that includes CEP education as well as required annual stroke, chest pain and emergency severity index
education.
Maintains proficiency in medication administration, math of dosage and dysrhythmias. Obtains passing grade for yearly examinations in
mentioned areas.
Other Responsibilities
The Special Duty RN is required to rotate shifts and work weekends and holidays.
The Special Duty RN must also be available for call as needed or as per established scheduling guidelines.
All other responsibilities are assigned in accordance with qualifications.
Job Qualifications: Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
Experience:
One year Medical/Surgical nursing experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration:
Current nurse's license in the state of Pennsylvania or a current multistate license (MSL) from compact member states/territories required.
Current CPR certification.
ACLS and PALS certification obtain within six (6) months of hire.
Completion of an approved Basic Dysrhythmia Course within six (6) months of hire.
Critical Care Course or Basic Coronary Care Course preferred.
