Position Type: Support Staff/Teacher Assistant Date Posted: 1/7/2025 Location: Lincoln Heights Elementary School Date Available: 01/20/2025 Closing Date: Until filled District: Greenville Public Schools JOB TITLE: Special Education Paraprofessional LOCATION: Lincoln Heights Elementary HOURS: 27.5 per week COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: This position is paid in accordance with the Greenville Education Support Personnel Association Master Agreement. This position is not eligible for benefits. JOB SUMMARY: The Special Education Paraprofessional, under general supervision of the teacher, provides support to a student who needs modified instruction or assistance as described in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned - Projects being a positive role model to students and colleagues by participating as a team member, engaging in productive problem-solving skills and ensuring that positive and continuous communication with others is occurring
- Provides for the basic physical needs of students as needed (e.g. toileting, ensuring students receive their medications, assisting with feeding students, assisting with hygiene, etc.).
- Provides timely, accurate and professional documentation by recording daily grades/points, progress notes, progress reports, report cards, IEP goals and objectives, incident reports and behavior data in accordance with standard practices of the school
- Uses a variety of instructional strategies and resources to respond to the student's diverse needs and interests, including prescribed educational software and intervention curriculum.
- Facilitates learning experiences that promote autonomy, interaction and choices, engages students in problem-solving, critical thinking and/or other activities that make each subject matter meaningful
- Establishes a climate that promotes a firm, fair and respectful school environment with a focus on social development and group responsibility by modeling and reinforcing positive behaviors
- Implements standards for student behavior in order to ensure a safe, secure and effective learning environment by providing a high degree of structure, clear expectations,and consistency
- Assures the classroom physical environment is conducive to learning by maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the classroom and work areas, including but not limited to desks, shelves, and storage areas
- Ensures the rights of all students are observed and protected through the use of appropriate and respectful communication, proper de-escalation techniques, and correct physical restraint methods when necessary
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: - Knowledge and/or coursework in child development
- Positive attitude focused on student growth and development
- Love of children
- Ability to form positive relationships with students
- Previous experience working with young learners
- Previous experience working with students who have disabilities
- Excellent attendance and work habits
- Must be able to pass a background check with no criminal history
- Ability to lift up to 45 pounds
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Completion of two years of study or more at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); obtain an associate's degree or higher; or complete a state or local academic assessment (ETS ParaPro Assessment) with a passing score.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental and physical demands and environmental factors include: maintaining emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, and other classroom or adaptive equipment; may be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; assist non-ambulatory students; exposure to biological hazards.
