Primarily responsible for providing law enforcement services within the respective locations for court and/or transport.
Job Duties:Adheres to the Cherokee Nation policy for transport. Provide custody and security of prisoners, as needed. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Maintain logs as indicated by the applicable standards. Properly prepare and maintain records, forms, and reports, as appropriate. As needed, prepare and organize court documents and case records. As circumstances arise, apprehend arrest overly disruptive or violent individuals. Must be able to quickly interpret and respond to disruptive scenarios and be qualified to use an agency-issued firearm. Must exercise good judgment and be adept at handling outbursts and maintaining rapport with a wide range of people, from defendants and the general public to attorneys and judges. Must become familiar with courtrooms, legal terminology, and protocols respective to tribal, state, and federal judicial provisions. Must also possess good written and verbal communication skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualifications:EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); no exceptions.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
Experience preferred but not required.
COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should know Database software, Internet software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets the requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must meet and maintain periodic background adjudication for law enforcement. No felony convictions. Must be 21 years of age. Must complete or possess CLEET certification within two years of hire and then maintain throughout employment. Maintain no restrictions from testifying in any tribal, state, and federal court while employed with the Cherokee Nation Marshal Services. Must pass and maintain the ability to pass the Minnesota Multiphasic Physiological Inventory (MMPI). Must meet and maintain medical suitability. Must pass firearms qualification semi-annually. May be required to live within the Reservation depending on duties of assignment. Must comply with Cherokee Nation Marshal Services Policies, Procedures, and Code of Conduct.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to correct focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
