The special procedures registered nurse (RN) assumes responsibility and accountability for patients in the Radiology and Respiratory Department for a designated time frame.The special procedures registered nurse (RN) is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing care of patients in correlation with the Nursing Process, Alabama Nurse Practice Acts, and South Baldwin Regional Medical Center's standards of care, philosophy, mission, and the patient's medical plan of treatment and care. The special procedures RN will assist with the collection of all information for elective and inpatient procedures and educate the patient and/or family what they can expect following any procedure. He or she will communicate with the departments, admissions, registration, physician's offices, case management/discharge planning and ancillary departments in order to ensure optimal patient management and education, as well as, the continuum of care. The special procedures RN assumes responsibility and accountability for patients in the Radiology and Respiratory Department for a designated time frame and must be able to pass the MRI screening form to enter the MRI suite. This individual will project a positive professional image in both dress and manner that emphasizes a sincere concern of the patient's satisfaction and sensitivity to medical staff needs.He or she will also become certified in placing long-term intravenous accesses to include peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) and midlines within 30 days of hire. This RN is also responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing care of patients in correlation with the Alabama Nurse Practice Act, SBRMC standards of care, philosophy, mission, and the medical plan of treatment and care. Education:Must possess a current Alabama license or AL compact license as a Registered Nurse. Certification in placing PICC or midlines. Certification can be acquired on the job within 30 days of hire. Experience:Desirable characteristics include at least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse. Must be able perform work according to department standards, when no directions are given. Must be able to function independently following assignment and know limitations to personal and patient safety.Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress. Must be able to work and communicate clearly and effectively to patients, physicians, and coworkers to accomplish patient procedures. Experience performing procedures and placing long term intravenous accesses a plus. Licenses/Certificates:Must possess a current Alabama license or AL compact license as a Registered Nurse.Must obtain and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).ACLS, PALS, moderate sedation, and PICC line/ midline certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.Must complete required departmental competencies to validate competency and maintain competencies - initial competency validation completion within ninety (90) days of start date and then on an annual basis.
