Learn more at townofmountainvillage.com/careers Job SummaryIrrigation Specialist FLSA: Non-Exempt Salary Grade: 12 (Min $25.37, Mid $29.81, Max $34.25) Hiring Range: $25.37-$29.81/hour **Position being offered with housing at Village Court Apartments.**NATURE OF WORK: Under general supervision, operates and maintains irrigation systems for Town public areas including lawns and gardens, flower pots and baskets; will assist the supervisor with oversight of staff and public area maintenance and repair functions throughout year. Essential FunctionsDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitors and ensures the proper functioning of irrigation systems and equipment; activates and adjusts irrigation systems including programming irrigation clocks; repairs and replaces broken irrigation lines and sprinkler heads; shuts off water mains, deactivates irrigation clocks, and winterizes the irrigation system.
- Operates irrigation system with highest regard to water conservation measures and regulations. Works and communicates professionally with water department in an ongoing manner.
- Monitors, records and reports to Manager monthly and annual departmental water use and climate conditions and proposes strategies and opportunities to reduce water use where possible while maintaining desired plant health.
- Attends trainings and trade shows to stay abreast of new technologies in the field and current irrigation and water conservation strategies.
- Implements new smart irrigation technologies where appropriate on Town irrigation systems.
- Assists in the upkeep and replanting of flower beds; watering, maintenance and weeding of flower beds, pots, and baskets; performs a variety of landscape maintenance functions including mowing lawns, maintaining planting beds, decorative rock, landscapes and other related activities; lays sod and removes weeds, rakes, and edges lawns and turf areas; plants and prunes trees, shrubs, and flowers. .
- Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment, including Bobcat/skid steer to remove snow and ice and otherwise maintain plazas and common areas in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems.
- Educates and trains seasonal and full-time staff regarding irrigation procedures and practices including basic troubleshooting strategies and needs.
- Assists supervisor with training and oversight of seasonal staff.
- Assists with enforcement and oversight of plaza policies and programs including special events, plaza vehicle access and permitting; installation of holiday decorations; plaza assistance; monitoring of compliance with plaza uses and license agreements.
- Assists Supervisor or Manager with special projects and project management/oversight.
- Performs snow and ice removal in public plazas.
- Assists with enforcement and oversight of plaza policies and programs including special events, plaza vehicle access and permitting; installation of holiday decorations; plaza assistance; monitoring of compliance with plaza uses and license agreements.
- Performs minor maintenance activities including painting, staining and waterproofing of public benches, light posts, signage, fences, and trash cans.
- Collects and disposes of garbage and recyclables from common areas.
- Assists with the preparation of facilities for special events; sets up tents, tables, chairs, and banners; cleans up and breaks down events.
- Acts as a liaison, when necessary between the Mountain Village and its residents and guests, subcontractors, vendors, and merchants giving direction and assistance as needed.
- Recognizes, practices, and enforces appropriate safety rules and procedures when performing any and all tasks associated with this position.
- Provides friendly and professional guest service information and assistance at all times when in the presence of the public.
- Maintains a neat and orderly appearance at all times when working. Responds to and resolves problems or issues from the public or staff in a timely and professional manner.
- Actively works to progress the Town's goal of zero waste and carbon neutrality by minimizing unnecessary consumption (of energy, water, paper, plastic, ink, etc.), seeking environmentally preferred products (e.g., reusable, recycled content, non-fossil fuel), and supporting environmental initiatives through participation, promotion, and accurate storytelling.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of the team.

Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma/GED AND two years' experience in irrigation, turf management, parks and landscape maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Associates or Bachelor's degree in related field preferred. Licenses/Certification(s): Possession of a valid State Driver's License is required. Certifications in irrigation systems and water management preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities RequiredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of: Maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and equipment; local climate variations and drought measures; methods, materials and equipment used in grounds and turf maintenance; methods, materials and equipment used in snow removal and landscape maintenance; methods for seeding, propagating, planting, cultivating and trimming flowers, plants, trees, shrubs and lawns; principles, practices and techniques of water conservation; state and town safety rules and regulations, including drug and alcohol testing guidelines; vehicle and equipment maintenance procedures and practices; occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skill in: Proper irrigation techniques; data collection and reporting; Safe and efficient operation of vehicles and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures; effective verbal and written communication; research and implementation of resource conservation measures; establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers; use of irrigation, snow removal, gardening and grounds keeping tools and equipment. Environmental Factors: Work is performed primarily in an outdoor environment with exposure to extreme weather conditions, machinery with moving parts, equipment exhaust, and hazardous materials. Physical Factors:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to operate bobcats, perform manual labor, stand and walk for extended periods of time, climb ladders, and lift and/or move items weighing up to 100 pounds.
