The position is responsible for performing high quality procedures using independent decision making and problem solving skills to obtain the best possible images. The incumbent will become proficient in all aspects of patient care and the use of ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes.ScopeWorks at least 80% of time training in the respective specialty area. Must obtain registration within 1 year of moving into this job, if specialty area requires a registry.Job EssentialsEnsures proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam. Assists in proper contrast administration.Positions patients effectively for scans, using sound knowledge of physiology and anatomy.Performs exams using consistent department protocols and transmits all pertinent data through appropriate systems for radiologist review.Proactively assesses images and makes adjustments, as needed, to deliver quality scans for proper patient diagnosis.Performs routine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of imaging equipment and makes adjustments for patient size, age, and condition. Also recognizes equipment failures and adjusts or reports concerns as needed.Participates in department assignments such as maintaining department stock, quality improvement activities, and cleaning work areas.Demonstrates effective radiation and pathogenetic protection for patient, as well as self.Follows department protocols for medical necessity, obtaining consents for invasive procedures, coding and charging, and documenting any events that may occur.Actively pursues learning new procedures or advancements in specialty area.Thoroughly and accurately completes all required documentation, including time stamps and image storage.Shift Details PRN position (on-call, as needed)Must be available for coverage any day of the week, holidays and weekends.Minimum QualificationsTrainingCurrently attending and receiving formal Ultrasound, MRI, Nuclear Medicine training from an accredited training program. -or-Successful completion of formal training from an approved/accredited school with Radiologic Technology (RT) Certification.
