Lab SupportPOSITION SUMMARYThis position is responsible for the receipt of biological specimens into the department, their proper entry into the company's computer system, the preparation of samples for analytical testing, the distribution of these specimens to the proper analytical area, and archiving specimens after testing. This position reports to Specimen Processing Supervisor, and takes direction from Senior Specimen Preparation Technicians, and Specimen Preparation Coordinators.
CORE FUNCTIONS1.Enters and verifies patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, appropriate clinical information and all other pertinent data found on requisitions submitted. Verifies accuracy of entered information. Verifies appropriateness of specimens received. Aliquots and labels specimens according to established departmental procedures and practices; delivers specimens to the technical floor in a timely manner.
2.Focuses on quality by ensuring that all work performed is accurate and complete. Maintains familiarity with departmental procedures Meets or exceeds department quality performance metrics on all work performed. Documents performance to immediate supervisor or coordinator as required by established methods and practices. Follows established procedures and methods. Complies with all safety rules, and follows defined safety practices.
3.Participates in departmental financial monitoring and improvement. Supports waste reduction and expense reduction programs. Assists supervisor and manager in monitoring and controlling expenses throughout the year.
4.Meets departmental standards for productivity as currently defined. Provides basic technical support for less experienced Specimen Preparation Technicians, answers questions and directs them to appropriate resources. Responsible for maintaining technical competence in all assigned tasks, and verifying competence annually.
5.Communicates courteously and professionally with internal and external customers. Interacts with co-workers with an emphasis on teamwork and a focus on customer service.
6.Supports and exhibits behaviors consistent with the Company's Mission, Vision and Values. Follows the guidelines of the Code of Conduct. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum age requirement of 18.
Good reading, writing and math abilities are required.
Oral and written communication skills sufficient to understand written and spoken instructions in English.
Good organization skills are also required.
Must meet all training competency qualifications for Specimen Preparation Technician within six months of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Six (6) months' experience in a laboratory or key encoding environment.
High School Diploma or equivalent GED exam or other means.
Typing/keyboarding skills of minimum 25 wpm, demonstrated by completion of a typing/keyboarding test
