Citizens is currently recruiting for a Commercial Senior Credit Offer to cover the New York Metro Region for the Middle Market organization. This role is a highly visible leadership role requiring strong risk identification, assessment, and mitigation skills, line of business expertise, decisiveness and strong interpersonal skills combined with along with the ability to prioritize and operate in a multi-tasked and geographically dispersed environment both independently and expediently. Key attributes and experience include analyzing, and structuring, and decisioning transactions in a growth oriented Middle Market Division aligned with the strategic goals and initiatives of the business. Work effectively with business partners to ensure credit expansion activities fit within the bank's overall risk appetite. Target market is made up of the diversified industries including manufacturing, professional services, and consulting will be helpful for the role as well with revenues generally between $50 million and $500 million.

Responsibilities:

  • Objectively identify risk and proactively guide the development of protective and balanced credit structures and decisions to maintain portfolio quality and to protect the bank's capital.
  • Maintain a strong control environment and culture, with a key focus on regulatory compliance & relations.
  • Credit Approval: Review, approve or decline or recommend to appropriate higher authority, credit opportunities for new originations, renewals, or modifications of existing loans.
  • Portfolio Management: Provides oversight of designated portfolio to ensure that satisfactory loan quality is maintained identifies potential problem credits and works with relationship managers and/or loan workout specialists to restructure the credit and/or minimize losses.
  • Partner and collaborate with line of business counterparts to constructively achieve portfolio objectives.
  • Provide leadership related to credit decisions, credit risk management, and portfolio management with an eye toward portfolio strategic objectives, credit policies and all related administrative procedures.
  • Ensure all credit delivery activities have been completed in a timely, efficient, and prudent manner while providing a facilitating environment for the delivery of services and client experience.
  • Provide a leadership role in modeling and disseminating the bank's credit culture and risk appetite.
  • Follow defined processes, procedures, and credit policies to accomplish all defined accountabilities.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in a Commercial Credit Banking function with primary experience dealing with credit relationships with revenues between $50-$500 million in a large bank environment.
  • Experience lending in single bank, syndicated structures, managing credits with complex capital structures, and partnering with multiple commercial banking product areas to responsibly allocate capital across a credit relationship.
  • Strong administrative, communication/interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and act independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance risk and return, promoting responsible expansion of credit relationships while leading stewardship of the Bank's balance sheet.
  • Experience guiding credit culture and oversight framework to ensure adequacy of risk/reward balance, regulatory compliance, governance structure, risk appetite, and credit policy assurance and conformance.
  • Leadership background with a strong attention to detail, fast change of pace, and a broad involvement in accountability across many partners and stakeholders
  • Possess analytical knowledge and abilities to strategically influence digitization, automation, and growth initiatives to ensure credit transparency and performance within strategic objectives and risk appetite.
  • Experience with analysis of local, regional, and national economic conditions and their impacts on portfolio performance and downstream impacts on loss forecasting, risk appetite, stress testing, and loan loss reserves
  • Ensure adherence to portfolio appetite, credit policies and all related administrative procedures.
  • Required ability to influence activities and collaboration of non-direct report partnership and stakeholder teams.
  • Credit authority and accountability of policy approval and exception underwriting.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a financially oriented major.

Pay Transparency

The salary range for this position is $160,000 - $275,000 per year, plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the work location, and relevant skills and experience.
