A Day in the Life

Reporting to the Vice President of Global Operations, Diabetes, the Senior Director of Facilities, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Security is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of global facilities management, security, and environmental, health, and safety programs across the Diabetes organization. This role ensures the company's facilities are maintained to the highest safety, functionality, and efficiency standards while also overseeing compliance with all applicable environmental and safety regulations. The Senior Director of Facilities, EHS and Security will develop and implement strategies to enhance workplace safety, reduce environmental impact, improve operational efficiency, and maintain a safe, sustainable work environment.

This global position can be located remotely but requires at least one week per month at the Diabetes HQ in Northridge, California (Los Angeles metropolitan area).

Facilities Management
  • Oversee company facilities' strategic planning, design, and maintenance, including office buildings, manufacturing sites, and other operational locations.
  • Manage the design, planning, construction, and maintenance of equipment, machinery, buildings, and other facilities. Plan, budget, and schedule facility modifications, including estimates on equipment, labor, materials, and related costs.
  • Develop and execute long-term facilities management plans to ensure optimal use of space and infrastructure.
  • Design and develop organizational policies relevant to the facilities department.
  • Oversee the coordination of building space allocation and layout, communication services, and facilities expansion. May be responsible for establishing and overseeing health and safety standards.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of facility maintenance, including preventive maintenance programs, building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), and equipment management.
  • Lead the implementation of facility upgrades, renovations, and new construction projects in alignment with company goals and budgetary constraints.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure facilities needs are met efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking and managing facility assets, space utilization, and resource allocation.
  • Environmental Health & Safety
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's EHS policies and programs, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Oversee the creation of safety protocols, emergency response plans, and training programs for employees to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Manage risk assessments, audits, and safety inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Drive the organization's sustainability initiatives, including waste management, energy efficiency, and resource conservation programs.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses for safety incidents, accidents, or environmental violations, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports related to environmental, health, and safety issues as required by law.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and encourage employee participation in safety programs and initiatives.
  • Lead the Diabetes global security team and the development and testing of emergency response plans, including disaster recovery, evacuation procedures, and business continuity.
  • Ensure that facilities and operations are prepared for natural disasters, pandemics, or other emergency scenarios.
  • Act as the company's key point of contact for emergency situations involving facilities, health, or safety risks.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, local building codes).
  • Monitor changes in relevant regulations and update company policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to senior management, including key performance indicators (KPIs), audit results, safety metrics, and incident trends.
  • Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead and mentor a team of facilities and EHS professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and development opportunities to foster a high-performing team.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align facilities and EHS strategies with overall organizational objectives and performance goals.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources for facilities and EHS initiatives.
  • Promote a collaborative work environment by partnering with cross-functional teams, including operations, HR, and legal, to address EHS-related issues.
  • QUALIFICATIONSMust Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with 10+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 8+ years of managerial experience.
  • Professional certifications in EHS (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), LEED Accreditation) and/or facilities management (e.g., Facility Management Professional (FMP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM)) are preferred.
  • Experience managing complex and large sites with multiple levels of leadership and reporting.
  • Strategic thinking with experience managing architectural changes.

  • MBA with HR specification or Master's degree in Engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of business management concepts and practical applications gained through cross-functional business experience.
