Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly analytical Mechanical Construction Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping, in commercial and industrial construction projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with clients, project managers, and other team members to ensure competitive and comprehensive bids.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimate Preparation:
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and drawings to determine scope and requirements for mechanical systems.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for HVAC, plumbing, and other mechanical systems, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
Bid Management:
- Develop and submit competitive bids and proposals to clients within specified deadlines.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to review and refine estimates before submission.
- Maintain organized documentation of all bids, proposals, and estimates for future reference.
Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination:
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure the best pricing and terms.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to enhance project success.
- Verify the scope of work in subcontractor bids to ensure alignment with project requirements.
Cost Analysis:
- Conduct take-offs and quantity surveys using estimating software and tools.
- Perform cost analysis to compare estimated vs. actual costs on completed projects.
- Adjust future estimates based on lessons learned and historical data.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify project scope and resolve discrepancies in plans and specifications.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project discussions as needed.
- Provide input on budgets and schedules during the pre-construction phase.
Market and Industry Awareness:
- Stay updated on industry trends, labor rates, material costs, and market conditions.
- Research and integrate the latest technologies and methodologies to improve estimating processes.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience as a mechanical estimator or in a similar role within the construction industry.
- Proven expertise in estimating HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems for commercial and industrial projects.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, construction methods, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Trimble, FastPIPE, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members, clients, and vendors.
