We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced IP Litigation Counsel to join our esteemed legal team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing a variety of IP litigation matters, claims, and disputes on behalf of Medtronic. The IP Litigation Counsel will develop strategy for successful outcomes and manage litigation to strategic objectives within budget; hire, supervise, and work closely with outside trial counsel; provide oversight to in-house paralegals; engage in and drive early evaluation and resolution of claims; assess IP and legal risks; and provide legal advice and counsel to business units. This position reports to the Head of IP Litigation.This position will reside in one ofour US Medtronic office locations and work per the hybrid guidelines.Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.Directed and manage high-stakes intellectual property litigation for various business units at Medtronic, including matters relating to patent, trademark, trade secret and other IP disputesFormulate and implement innovative litigation strategies that align with Medtronic's business goals and protect its valuable IP assetsHire, supervise and manage outside counsel nationwideDevelop and manage budgets for efficient and effective management of casesDefine strategy to achieve expected outcomes within agreed budgets and timelinesProvide day-to-day work direction and feedback to paralegal and administrative support personnelConsult and collaborate with company business counsel on issues relating to litigation exposure and riskUp to 25% travelMUST HAVE: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:JD from a nationally recognized law schoolLicensed to practice law and in good standing under the Bar of at least one state or the District of Columbia8+ years of IP litigation experience in a law firm or in-house roleNICE TO HAVE:Direct courtroom experience in IP cases, including Markman hearings, dispositive motions, depositions, mediations, and trialsExperience with direct client contact providing strategic litigation and risk management adviceTechnical background (science/engineering)USPTO RegistrationPrevious in-house experiencePrevious experience in the medical device fieldAbility to clearly communicate complex technical and legal subject matter to a wide range of audiencesPhysical Job RequirementsThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this position, but they are not an exhaustive list of all the required responsibilities and skills of this position. The physical demands described within the Responsibilities section of this job description are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
