Welcome to the role of Senior Traffic Control Flagger – Fiber Optics . In this position, you will provide a safe work zone for both company personnel and the general public through monitoring and directing the flow of traffic in Fiber Optic work zones. This position requires attention to surroundings and the ability to identify traffic concerns and hazards.
This position should be advanced with traffic control plans and procedures, safety protocols, signaling devices, and, federal, state and local regulations.
What You'll Do
- Act as the MOT (Manager of Traffic) on more complex jobs as assigned and lead other Traffic Control Flaggers on those jobs
- Serve as a resource to advise Project Managers on Traffic Control plans, patterns, and procedures
- Responsible to communicate and educate all personnel on site with regard to traffic plans and flow to ensure safety
- Properly identify (or create as needed), implement, and communicate traffic control plans as provided by the state or locality where work is being performed
- Direct traffic safely through work zones by properly setting up and tearing down signaling devices such as road signs, barriers, cones, etc.
- Safely perform work along roadways by maintaining appropriate positioning for visibility
- Maintain awareness of safety regulations and guidelines related to traffic control operations
- Maintain awareness of environmental hazards that might require a shut-down of work such as fog, ice, lightening, etc. and communicate with Project Managers and on-site personnel to quickly respond to those hazards
- Stay up-to-date on emergency procedures such as proper response to accidents, incidents, and hazardous situations including how to communicate with emergency responders and assist with traffic management during emergencies
- Stay up-to-date on local, state, and federal regulations surrounding traffic control and work zone safety
- Operate basic hand tools (Cordless Drill, Hammer, Wrench, Socket Set)
- Safely operate a vehicle with attached trailer to transport flagging materials between locations
- Properly use standard flagging techniques and signals such as handheld flags, paddles, etc.
- Assist with site clean up and organize tools and supplies for safe storage
- Maintain radio communication with other flaggers and construction personnel
- Maintain professionalism and courtesy when interacting with motorists
- Assist with worksite housekeeping duties and equipment inspections
- Assist with performing minor field repairs on equipment
- Recognize general safety hazards such as missing and or degraded parts and hardware
- Assist with performance reviews by providing feedback on other Flaggers as requested
Working Conditions
- Walk/use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls / Reach with hands and arms / Climb ladders and stairs / Crawl/kneel
- Work outdoors in various, harsh weather conditions
- Walk long distances
- Stand for extended periods of time
- Lift up to 65 pounds without assistance
What You'll Bring
- 3+ years of flagging experience required
- Valid driver's license required
- ATSSA Flagger Certification and MTBMA Temporary Traffic Control Manager Certification required
- Traffic Control Certifications in multiple states required
- Advanced knowledge and experience with traffic control safety and best practices
- Ability to work independently as well as lead crews and teams
- Prior leadership experience required
- Possess verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain professionalism
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately in various situations
- Possess strong observation and problem-solving skills
- Possess preferred certifications such as Flagger Instructor, Traffic Control Supervisor, Specialized Flagging Techniques, certifications for specific industries, etc.
