SRE / Applications Support Engineer Location: New York (Hybrid - 3 days onsite, 2 days remote) Candidate Preference: Local candidates or those willing to relocate to the New York area. Employment Type: W2 only Must-Have Skills:
- Application Support Experience: Approximately 7 years of experience in application support, ideally in a front-office environment (trading floor preferred).
- Financial Product Knowledge: Experience with Fixed Income products (Bonds, Treasuries, FX trading, Equities, Interest Rate Derivatives, Credit Risk) is highly desirable.
- Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in Python scripting and ability to handle small development tasks.
- Operating Systems & Networking: Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux, including shell scripting, and understanding of basic networking concepts (NFS, LAN, TCP/IP).
- Databases: Experience with relational database management systems (RDBMS) and the ability to write and execute SQL queries.
- Monitoring Tools: Familiarity with monitoring tools like Geneos, Grafana, and Splunk.
- SRE Tools: Experience with automation tools used for Site Reliability Engineering.
- Job Scheduling: Knowledge of job scheduling tools (e.g., Autosys, Control-M).
- Cloud: Experience with AWS, with AWS certification preferred.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with traders and other stakeholders.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Fixed Income Derivatives: In-depth knowledge of fixed income derivatives products.
- Programming Languages: Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages (Java, Python, .NET, C++, etc.).
- DevOps/SRE: Experience or knowledge of working in a DevOps/SRE model.
- Development Tools: Familiarity with Jenkins, Git, and Bitbucket.
Responsibilities:
- Provide front-office application support, troubleshooting issues and resolving them promptly.
- Work closely with traders and other users to understand their needs and provide effective solutions.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools to streamline support processes and improve system reliability.
- Monitor system performance and proactively identify and address potential issues.
- Participate in incident management and problem resolution.
- Collaborate with development teams to ensure smooth application deployments and upgrades.
Qualifications:
- BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and inquisitive, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Proven expertise in application development and support, preferably in a financial services environment.
- Understanding of risk controls and compliance requirements.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and build strong relationships.
