Staff Accountant

Location/Schedule: Crossnore, North Carolina, in-person. Work hours are generally 8:30 am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility. Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Availability to travel to campuses and throughout regions occasionally for necessary meetings.

Education/Experience/Licensure:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
  • 3+ years Accounting/Finance experience, including payroll processing, recording of cash receipts, general ledger entries, and account reconciliation required.
  • Experience with medical billing, contracts, and financial statements preferred.
  • Experience in not for profit accounting principles strongly preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Advanced skills in HRIS payroll systems, Excel, and Google Sheets.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Staff Accountant, you will:

  • Payroll Processing: Manage and execute payroll functions for the agency, aligning processes with the HRIS system.
  • Revenue and Receivables: Process cash receipts and record revenue/receivables under the direction of senior finance leadership.
  • General Ledger Management: Record approved journal entries, perform account analysis, and reconcile accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing financial reports, including financial statements, budget performance, and interim reporting.
  • Tax Filings: Prepare quarterly and annual tax filings, W2s, and 1099s.
  • Month-End Procedures: Perform month-end closing tasks as determined by senior finance leaders.
  • Training and Orientation: Provide time reporting orientation and training for new hires.
  • 401K and Benefits: Process 401K contributions, profit sharing, and payroll deductions for benefits.
  • Audit Preparation: Assist in audit preparations and compliance activities.
  • Data Analysis: Research historical financial data and prepare necessary reports.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Work closely with program areas and team members to implement efficient accounting practices.
  • Confidentiality and Judgment: Exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical standards in all tasks.
  • Additional Duties: Take on other assignments as directed by finance leadership.
