This is a hybrid work opportunity. The Company feels that three shared days in the office and two days with the option of working remotely allows for both collaborative time and quiet space for deep work. Eligible employees for hybrid work are required to work in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. There may be a need for additional office days based on specific business requirement. Job Description The Staff Accountant is responsible for delivering excellent service to our customers and shareholders by performing a wide variety of tasks associated with the completion and maintenance of the Company's financial systems and reports. The Staff Accountant will assist in the preparation of balance sheets and income statement analysis for senior management.The Staff Accountant performs a variety of duties. Tasks include but are not limited to the following:•Assists in monthly, quarterly, and annual closing of books including the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and analysis of income statement accounts.•Prepares journal entries, which may include maintenance of certain recurring entries, cost allocations and corrections.•Assists in providing comprehensive accounting services for contracted services to other water and wastewater systems, including support for annual audits and Maine Public Utility Commission filings.•Assist in the preparation of a variety of financial reports including annual reports for the Maine Public Utilities Commission and monthly sales tax filings.•Provides support for ongoing audit and SOX requirements. •Assists in the implementation of software upgrades as needed or as requested by Management, such as general ledger (JD Edwards).•Support treasury, budget and rate case processes.•Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.The Company is committed to providing a safe workplace.
