Job Description

Boston College seeks a sixth member to join the Office of Governmental and Community Affairs. This part-time (20 plus hours a week) benefits-eligible position is a crucial role that will interact with members within and outside the Boston College Community at various levels, always providing excellent customer service. The successful candidate will play a significant part in our team's operations, and the role may require additional evening weekday or weekend hours.

The Office of Governmental and Community Affairs (OGCA) is responsible for cultivating, managing, and building positive relationships between Boston College and federal, state, and city government, as well as our host communities of Boston, Newton, Brookline, and Dover. As the primary liaison between the University and the surrounding communities, OGCA engages with government officials, neighbors, community and non-profit organizations, and other key stakeholders on various issues.

The primary functions of the office include

* Serving as a liaison to municipalities and the community on campus development, institutional master planning, and resolution of off-campus student life issues

* Oversight, delivery, and coordination of scholarship, grant, cultural, athletic, and service programs or initiatives that benefit our host communities and residents

* Providing government relations support for the University's research and legislative agenda

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

In conjunction with the full-time Administrative Assistant, the part-time position supports the office by performing the following duties:

Frontline Communication: Answers telephone and email inquiries, responds promptly when possible to resolve an issue, answers a question, or directs inquiries to the appropriate staff member.

Administrative Support- Supports daily office operations by managing calendars, scheduling meetings and event space as needed, processing travel and business expenses, payment of invoices, project record keeping and filing, ordering supplies, and monitoring office space and equipment condition.

Grant, Event, and Program Management Support- Working with the Director of Community Affairs and the Director of Government Relations, provide administrative and logistical support for office grant programs, awards, and events. Responsibilities include coordinating invitations and grant announcements, outreach and tracking invitees/grantees, email and written correspondence, and production of reports. BASIC

The ideal candidate will posses three years of administrative or office support experience in a Microsoft and Excel environment, have strong written an verbal communication skills and the ability to work with confidential and sensitive information. A college degree is preferred but not required. Individuals with experience in higher education, government relations, or non-profit settings are strongly encouraged to apply.
