Work Shifts ROTATIONAL SCHEDULE Job Description FUNCTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates awareness of individual patient rights.
  • Provide safe patient care in individual room: a) Monitors physical symptoms b) Ensure consent is consent and dated.
  • Perform scrub and circulating duties with efficiency speed: a) Prepares patient operative area, adjust table to proper position. b) Ascertain all supplies and equipment in room arc functioning. c) Assists the surgeons/anesthesiologists and other personnel as needed to ensure good patient care. d) Maintains count of sponges, needles and instruments to ensure no lost items. e) Maintains record of procedures and rcpo11s of any unusual occunences.
  • Receives and gives reports to incoming staff
  • Assist the Head Nurse as directed in: a) Scheduling of operative cases b) Acts as a Charge Nurse c) Help with maintaining records and statistics
  • Assist in the development of staff unit-based orientation and education: a) Orientation of new personnel. b) Formulation and interpretation of procedures, standards and techniques.
  • Assumes accountability and responsibility for his/her own work performances: a) Observe assigned work hours and schedules. b) Provide availability for on-call and emergencies.
  • Assist with inventory control.
  • Maintains open communication with staff and surgeons.
  • Recognizes symptoms of cardiac arrest, respiratory distress m1dior other impending emergencies and initiates the necessary action.
  • Applies principles of proper body alignment during transfer and positioning on patients.
  • Ensures safety of patient during electrical equipment (i.e. Electro-surgical cautery units).
  • Correctly collects and accurately labels specimens
  • Assure appropriate care for instruments and equipment:
  • Assist in care and bundling of supplies a11d equipment.
  • Uses supplies judiciously.
  • Coordinates the activities of other health care professionals during surgical intervention.
  • Minimum Qualifications 1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and 2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA). Special Note: For assignments in Post-Acute Care ONLY, individuals meeting the following criteria may also be considered for appointment: Graduation from a nursing education program registered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as licensure qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse (RN) and has applied for licensure as an RN. These unlicensed individuals may be employed to practice under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN for up to 90 days immediately following graduation pending receipt of a limited permit, which selected candidates must apply for and receive within the same 90-day period. Once a limited permit is received, individuals can practice nursing, under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN at a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting for up to one (1) year from the date of issuance of the limited permit. In addition, must hold or obtain through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
