We're intrigued by the opportunity to engineer the most optimal approach that drives conversions and generates consumer loyalty across every touchpoint of the digital journey.As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll spend your days translating requirements into solutions, writing code, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and providing us with the insights necessary to think beyond the status quo. You'll lead project teams consisting of other engineers achieving shared goals.About Team: Search MLOpsAs a member of the Model Serving team, you'll be responsible for supporting and enhancing the Walmart MLOps platform. Your duties will include suggesting ideas to achieve low latency and high performance for ML models, guiding other engineers in developing and productionizing these ideas, staying updated on the latest ML technologies to improve the Walmart ML platform, and integrating the newest ML runtimes and tools. You will also provide suggestions for optimizing and improving the performance of trained ML models. Additionally, you will independently handle high-impact, critical platform and system monitoring issues and troubleshoot business and production problems. As part of the team, you'll have the opportunity to work for the world's largest retailer and contribute to the development of best-in-class methodologies that significantly impact perception and transform business practices.The larger search ecosystem is a large distributed system powered mostly by the JVM with Java as our primary programming language. We heavily use kubernetes, Solr, Redis, Kafka, Spark and NoSQL, among other cutting-edge technologies in our core platform. Experience with these technologies would be advantageous but is not required.What you'll do:During any given day, you will:
  • Assist in solving problems by writing and developing code, conducting unit testing, communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders, troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes, and ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs.
  • Assist in providing guidance to engineers for assigned Engineering projects by providing detailed technical feedback through various channels including pair programming and code reviews.
  • Provide support to the business by responding to user questions, concerns, and issues
  • Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information (for example, issue, impact, criticality, possible root cause) and performing root cause analysis to reduce future issues.
  • Participate in the discovery phase of medium to large-sized projects to come up with high level design by partnering with the product management, project management, business, user experience teams, and engineering teams.

  • Working experience or knowledge about machine learning, model serving runtimes (ex: Torchserve, Triton etc), model serving platforms (ex: Kserve).
  • Proficiency in Python programming, with the ability to write clean, maintainable, and efficient code. Ability to suggest improvements that reduce code execution latency without compromising functionality.
  • Solid fundamentals in Algorithms, Data Structures, Complexity Analysis and Object-Oriented Design
  • Experience building high-performance, highly available and scalable distributed systems.
  • Experience working on cloud native services
  • Ability to build products with focus on testability, someone who loves test coverage
  • A disciplined approach to development, code review, testing, documentation, and code structure in a team environment.
  • A constant desire to improve, learn more and take things to the next level and a passion for adopting the latest features in software development
