Job DescriptionExternal as of 8/1/2024GENERAL SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, and directs the operational activities of sterile processing and provides sterile processing services for all areas of the organization. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Ensures compliance with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior and Code of ConductResponsibilities
  • Plans goals and objectives to accomplish agreed-upon departmental goals in areas of responsibility. Plans and implements systems and procedures for goal attainment.
  • Participates in development of departmental and capital budgets. Assists in performing ongoing budgetary monitoring to ensure consistency between operational expenditures and budget.
  • Formulates, recommends, and implements systems, policies, procedures, quality measures and performance improvement activities relative to sterile processing.
  • Oversees levels of owned and consigned inventory and uses knowledge and experience to set inventory levels.
  • Provides oversight of contract management processes involving the sterile processing department. 6. Assists in evaluating new equipment and supplies and makes recommendations.
  • Participates in establishing and maintaining communication between service departments and physicians, nursing personnel, and other professionals regarding product use, policies, and solution of problems relating to decontamination, processing, selection, and distribution of medical products.
  • Collects data and prepares reports relating to product usage, instrument distribution, instrument loss, and instrument replacement. Ensures that departments are charged appropriately for supplies and services rendered.
  • Supervises and maintains instrument management information system. Recommends and implements new, expanded, or modified information systems.
  • Maintains accurate records of equipment and supplies at facility, ensuring all information is appropriately and accurately entered into required databases for proper documentation.
  • Selects, evaluates, disciplines, and, when necessary, recommends discharge of personnel. Completes performance reviews in timely manner. Ensures compliance with departmental and medical center polices and associated contractual provisions.
  • Participates in identification and resolution of employee work-related problems. Responds to grievances.
  • Compiles, maintains, and schedules necessary management, regular, and ad hoc reports.
  • Plans and conducts in-service/training programs for departmental staff.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulatory agency requirements, and codes of practice. Maintains all necessary documents.
  • Represents department on committees and associations both internal and external to Medical Center.
  • Performs other related duties as required, including new improvements and/or technology that relate to job assignment.
  • QualificationsMINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    • Bachelor's degree in Business/Healthcare/Public Health Administration or related field.
    ANDTen (10) years of experience in sterile processing, five (5) of which must be in a supervisor capacity.
    • Ability to think critically, prioritize and make independent decisions in a fast paces environment.
    • Must possess a high level of verbal and written communication skills.
    • Must possess good organizational skills and be able to anticipate the upcoming needs and potential issues.
    • Demonstrate effective leadership in a professional manner
    • Possess excellent computer skills.
    • Possess considerable knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques and principles of microbiology.
    • Ability to collect and analyze data and present same in written or oral formats.
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with physicians, Medical Center personnel, students, vendors, regulatory agency personnel, and the general public.
